Joe Brown at Wired got the first US Spec'd Nokia N95 superphone and confirms that the update smooths away the primary flaws. HSDPA now works with US bands, tested to download at 699Kbps on AT&T's network. Bumping the 128MB of RAM to 160MB takes away all traces of lag, too.
It still has the A-GPS, maps, the 5MP Carl Zeiss camera, and all the other goodies. Yet, photos are not quite as good as the ones on the old one, and at the risk of being unfair, it still lacks a QWERTY still. (By design or not, when a phone has this many functions, you don't want to deal with T9.) This means two things: It is finally a real iPhone competitor...again? And B) the American who bought the first edition of the N95 less than 6 months ago just got screwed big time. Your loyalty has just been punished. [Wired]

Omg a Nokia iPhone competitor I bet no ones done this before I have such an erection right now omg!
AT&T? where's the unlock video?
Boy, that analog clock there sure is nifty heh.
@daftrok: what's an iPhone?
My loyalty got punished when I bought the N95 and sent it in for repair in early June and still don't have it back yet. Can't wait to sell this POC as soon as it gets back. I did love the camera, but the customer service is suck-o.
I returned my EU N95 after getting one with a couple of dead pixels in the small front cam. The exchange phone has been AWOL for the entire summer. Cancelled the entire package yesterday after seeing the N95 8GB version announcement. Now pondering over what to get next...
I thought ram was bumped from 64mb to 128mb...no?
How much $$$$ ?
@UnseenLlama:
Internal storage is still 160 mb
System ram doubled from 64 mb to 128 mb.
Lazy reporting, what can you do?
@EricBrian: $700 direct from Nokia. Unlocked and no contract required.
I played with a N95 in Heathrow last week and was very disappointed. The OS is very unresponsive. Pressing a button takes effect about 0.5 - 1 sec later. I didn't believe it so I took another one. Same thing :(
well i been lookin for this phone since i was 12 (now im 17) no! JK! but for real i want to get this phone so bad!!

prisoner of war? i assume i am missing something.
@targatop: go to my blog - www.symbiosis60.com and search for my repair story. You may learn a thing or two. I went through hell with N80 repair.
Matt
How is the battery life on 3G? On my N80, it lasted a little more than half as long when I used it in Italy on 3G compared to EDGE in the US.
I will stick with my Ubiquio 503G.
520Mhz, 3G, QWERTY, WM6 PPC and the new ROM gives me great battery life with HSDPA....
@TRAAK - the RAM increase in the US release (verse the UK release you played with) has apparently made up for almost all system lag; system lag has always been a bit of a blight for Nokia...really, and extra 64MB RAM costs *that* much?!
@SLEEPYYAZO - the 3G network supported by the US N95 IS NOT T-Mobile friendly.
@PANTSONFIRELIARLIAR - the battery capacity was increased, from 900 to 1200 I believe....but, as battery life was the biggest complaint on the original, even a third better won't make it spectacular.
What's with all the fuss around the N95? Its just a nokia smartphone.
I may end up getting this. I'll have to see what the cash flow is like when they release it.
The 8g euro version is only about 50 dollars more... but no 3g in the u.s. ... but there isn't even coverage where i live so i guess it would be good to wait and see if there were any decent upgrades that aren't evident just yet.
saul of the molemen is on... what a disgusting show.
