Free Vista Business Copies Arriving From Power Together Deal

Those of you who took Microsoft up on their "watch three webcasts and get a free copy of Windows Vista Business" offer should start checking your mailboxes because copies are starting to arrive. Yeah, Microsoft's actually delivering on their free copies instead of renegging like they did on those free USB keys when too many people signed up.

When you think about it, it's actually good for Microsoft to be giving away these business editions. With the upgrade path between XP and Vista even more unclear than the path between 2000 and XP, forking over free copies may be a good way for them to get more businesses to make the switch earlier, instead of waiting until Service Pack 1 is released.

Thanks Danny!

  • I got mine in the mail Thursday. I installed it that night. I noticed it does not come with games. Does anyone know how I can get the games from the DVD. I noticed all versions of Vista are on the DVD. I also noticed my invoice says Vista Eval. I hope this is not a 1 year evaluation copy. Has anyone else noticed this on their invoice?

    Luis.

  • I think they should always give their software for free since they have a bad habit to copy and patent inventions from others. Read more on Slashdot.org about M$ copyright infringement (Object Test Bench' feature in Visual Studio 2005)

  • dammit. i totally gnarfed and was too lazy to watch the webcasts. shit, im such a bitch.

  • I received mine about three days ago. I'm waiting for the official release to hit the shelves before I take the dive and do a clean install of Vista.

  • now... where are those new Vista PC's! I hate to run out and get an old style when the new Vista branded PC's are comng out!

  • So they are going to make you suffer through webcasts in order for a free chance to put this poison on your pc? Blah, im staying the hell away until they fix this so that you can use it as a HTPC without it crippling my HD content just because i use SPDIF out for my audio.

  • Got mine yesterday. I uninstalled the Vista Release candidate 2 and put in Vista Business. Had to do a fresh install since I cant go from RC2 (which is Vista Ultimate) down to Business. So far, I like it. It runs much nicer than XP and RC2. Most of the software I used on XP is compatible (if it isn't, I just use compatibility mode). The only thing that annoys me is that when I tried playing a game (BF2142, in this case), it ran like shit. Still, I prefer this over XP since XP keeps locking up on me (and if I REALLY need to use XP, I can just use it since I am using dual-boot). Vista is nice, but unless you got it for free from this deal or REALLY hate XP, wait until SP1 comes out.

  • Got it on Thursday, on my laptop this morning in under an hour, runs great.

  • Been using Vista past six weeks and must admit that I like it. M$ is on the right track.

  • I couldn't get the vista deal...but I did recieve an e-mail stating I'd be getting the Office 2k7 eventually...
I guess I'll just have to buy my Vista copy :(
Glad to see they're arriving though.

  • yea i just got mine in the mail in Thursday. They also give you a special deal to upgrade to Vista ultimate for $139, but the deal ends January 30, 2007

  • BTW: I didn't get anything either. Not even an E-mail.

  • I got mine on Thursday. I watched four webcasts. I did notice that the webcasts were available for quite some time after the promotion ended. If you registered and watched them, be sure it was during the promotion period.

I installed Vista last night and so far, I love it. I had used the RC1 and RC2 versions, so it's not "new" to me. So far, everything except Juice is working for me... Hmm, how to get my netcasts now... ?

  • got mine 3 days ago, Haven't had the chance to install it yet, but I'm happy they made good on the offer!

  • Damnit, I was going to do this but decided not to, now I wish I had :(.

  • Why the heck wasn't I notified on such an offer?!?!

  • Anyone want to trade their copy of Vista Business for Office 07? I already have Office 97, still works good, I see no reason to upgrade.

And for those guys who think you had to watch the whole webcast, I just slid the timebar forward towards the end on all 3 webcasts, which were incredibly boring for someone who isn't technical.

  • Got it a few days ago, installed it a day later.

Runs great! But the whole "asking me every single time I want to do anything if that is indeed what I intended upon doing by doing it" thing is a little extreme. Also, I tried to install a couple anti-virus programs and upon attempting to run them, Windows flashed a message box saying "X program did not run correctly. Windows is attempting to discover a solution." And then it basically tells you the solution is that it wont run the program.

    Nice!

  • I got mine Thursday.

  • I wonder when Office is gonna show up. I signed up for that instead of Vista and I need it!

  • Hey DanJ go to security alerts and turn off "User Account Control" and those friggin' alerts will quit driving you nuts!

  • Hey I just got and installed mine too. BUT, it's only a 32bit version of Vista. Does anyone know if the 64bit version is also on this DVD and/or can we upgrade to it? I tried calling Microsoft, but they said they aren't supporting any calls for Vista until the 30th.

It was actually kinda comical. I told the tech I had a retail copy of Vista sent to me and he was very confused. "You sure you're not using a BETA version" "No, retail" haha.

  • already on eBay! I will prolly use the proceeds to get vista home premium.

What a great freebie. I would just keep it, but I really weant the MCE stuff.

  • I missed out on the Vista deal, but I did the Office 2007 one and received mine today. You only receive a download link and product key, and not a hard copy, but hey for the price of free you won't hear me complaining.

  • Also got mine oh Thursday. Not installing it yet. FYI its not legal to re-sell this so if you get yanked off ebay don't be surprised.

  • Free?!

Damn It! I love free stuff. When were they doing this?

  • I qualified for both Office 2007 and Vista, but forgot to sign the form before faxing it in, so they made me take a picture of it, signed, and attach it to an email. Hopefully it shows up within a few days. And, hell, where's the plastic box?

  • I did the Office 2007 one.. I didn't watch all the videos fully, I started them, watched for about 5 minutes then skipped to the middle, watched another minute or so and did the same and the end.. Watched 3 videos, got an email on the 9th saying my Office 2007 Professional would be on it's way once it's released... Shoulda done the Vista one as well.

  • I got a free copy of Vista Business from my University, as they participate in some msdn program that gives free ms software to students. Yeah, it was free, but I was really disappointed. Functionally it's almost the exact same thing as XP with a mac-style search bar in the start menu and a mac-style dock thing for "gadgets"... All this hype for what looks like a reskinned XP?! Just looks shinier and a bit clunkier really. But I guess it was free. I would feel REALLY pissed if I paid retail price for it.

  • M$ sent me Windows Vista business a few days ago. I purchased a new hard drive to do a fresh install... The bad thing is the DVD has glue or something all over it. I replied to the email that said the DVD was coming. I wonder if they will replace it for me. I'm ready to try it out but the disc errors out on install. Arrrgh!

  • Hrm, I have no mention about it... I got the emails saying I qualified, but that's it.

Maybe they're sending those who qualified for both together first, then the ohters afterwards?

(I used two different accounts - one for vista, one for Office 2007 - I have no SSN number (I'm in Canada, with US addresses)...).

We'll see... I didn't hear anything from Microsoft...

  • man, for the Office 2007 Professional offer, all they did was mail out the package with just a Product Key. They give you a URL that links you to the Office 2k7 Pro download.

  • Yeah, I got my big package from Microsoft and was all excited. I opened it up and it was empty except for a small slip of paper with a product key and a download URL. I mean I still got free Office 2007, but it was a bit of a let down they didn't even send a CD.

  • sir give me a free cd in pakistan.thanks
