Shadow SS Watch Has Two Faces, Frightens Us

The Shadow SS watch is a two-faced little son-of-a-product from a very clever design house indeed. That is because, as your mother told you, appearances can be deceiving. The Shadow SS proves your mother was right, again.

The watch on first inspection may appear to be your average run-of-the-mill, square- faced, metal bracelet, snazzy timekeeper, but the twist comes in when you depress that sneaky LED activation button. This turns the once analog watch into a time whore, simultaneously displaying digital and analog time readouts. The two displays can even be programmed to show different time zones.

This watch reminds us of the Lion King , specifically when the hyenas joined the lions. The two were just not meant to mix and we think there was a very good reason for it. It scares us. Mind you, we are big blogging sissies. If you still want one, cough up your $199 and let us be done with this frightening affair. [Product Page via Technabob]

  • $200? I've seen things like this before for sub-$50.

  • I don't get it, these digital/analog watches are nothing new, and for $200? I don't think I care much for the alarm clock look of the digital readout either.

  • You know, for that guy who doesn't want anyone to know he can't read analog.

    Cuz analog is so hard.

  • This turns the once analog watch into a time whore, simultaneously displaying digital and analog time readouts.

    Wouldn't that be a "two-timing whore"?

"...This turns the once analog watch into a time whore..."

Doctor Who could probably use one of those.

Would you like a jelly, baby?

  • Looks too generic to really make a buying argument.
Give me a S+arck watch over this any day...

  • BIGTRUE, this type of watch is also useful in low/no light situations.

I have an analog/digital myself, but it didn't cost $200.
My job requires me to be outside after sunset, so I can state that this type of watch does come in handy.
I like the look of the analog face, but when lighting is an issue, it's nice to have the LED option.

And, yes, it also comes in handy when I can't remember if the big hand is the hours or minutes ;-)

  • What's so special here? I've got a "two-faced" watch from Timex: [www.timex.com]

While the dual analog/digital time display isn't "pants worthy" the fact that I can have chrono functions running while I'm 'watching the clock' means that I'll never have to wonder whether I've got time for one more interval set before happy hour.

  • Husker-Fan: That's what I thought too, then I remembered I have a perfectly good EL backlight in my watch. ;)

  • I'm not saying this is a ground breaking watch or anything, but I think the point is that, unlike the Timex linked and a lot of other ana/digital watches, the LED function is hidden until the button is pressed. You know, all stealth like.

My question is if the analog and digital are linked, or if you have to set them separately. I think so from the description.

Anyway, for an ana/digital watch I'll take a Citizen's any day of the week.

  • Casio had a much better technology called Twincept years ago.. the face of the watch had a transparent LCD built into it. When enabled the time would float over the hands of the watch.

For some reason though they stopped using the technology.. I think one watch still exists for sale, but I'm not really sure why this isn't used all over the place. It's much better than putting an ugly LCD on the bottom of the face of the watch.

  • @FullFlava: That's a good one. Redundant, but good!
