The biggest LEGO set ever, the $499 Ultimate Collectors Millennium Falcon, is now shipping, 5,000-pieces and four-pound ring-binded manual included. Yes, this thing is massive. Julie Stern from LEGO confirms: "We're a bit ahead of schedule, so some people who preordered now have their sets." In other words: "Great shot kid, that was one in a million!" Spoiler: Darth Vader is Luke's father, he dies at the end and Yoda, Frank Oz is. [Thanks Dlinc for the photos]

I think you meant: Yoda, Frank Oz is.
Man - if I didn't have to, you know, drive a car, I'd totally get one of those.
I loves me some Legos; need to get all those old sets I left at my parents' house all those years ago.
Anyone can unbox the "biggest Lego set ever." What about an assembly gallery?
@92BuickLeSabre: Good call. Editing. :-)
how big is this thing assembled? also, how does it compare to the Death Star set, in size?
$500....wow
WTF you have to actually put this thing together?? Eff that sh*t
@DWD: It just arrived today. These things are shipping now to people who pre-ordered 5 months ago.
Give Dlinc some time.
This whole "unboxing with a spoiler" is not a meme that Gizmodo or anyone else needs to start.
Cool Lego set though...
We need a sizemodo here. How big is it compared to say the real Millennium Falcon? Or how about just a falcon?
How come none of the photos have anything next to it?
There's no way to gauge size?
Yoda: "ring-bound," that should be.
@DEADPLASMACELL: It's LEGO. If you get it already assembled, what's the frigging point?
So someone took pictures of the box? Why dont you build it first, then take pictures?
The ship's too long. If I walk, the movie would be over.
it was delivered to me yesterday and i sent the pictures in this afternoon. unfortunately i have a job so it isn't finished yet (-complete lie; my wife wont let me touch it 'till christmas...) so i will have to just send the finished pictures of the snowspeeder i am working on now. i am sure i wont be the first to finish it. as far as the questions about size it is huge; about the same size as the ucs star-destroyer box. maybe a few inches bigger.
@mandarin: Because it takes a lot of time and this post is about the thing finally shipping, ahead of schedule.
the last pic with the instruction booket... is that a scale? is that a LEGO set with a freaking 4-pound instruction booklet?
do want.
Where did you get this for $499, everywhere I've looked it is well over a thousand!...OR did you get the "I'm Special" price?
The cool thing is, you can make some special modifications of your own.
She's fast enough for ya.
For a scale reference, take a look at the cockpit on the cover of the instruction manual, last pic. The cockpit looks like it can hold two of them. It's pretty massive.
This doesn't actually look that much bigger than the Imperial Star Destroyer, though it has about 2,000 more parts and $200 more pricetag. I suspect it is a lot me solid, whereas the ISD was just a hollow shell covered in giant panels that barely stayed on.
So.Awesome. Even though I'm not 12 any more, I would sell a family member to get me one of those.
Maybe if we wait a
Maybe if we wait a month, they'll cut the price $200.
I think you should put it together and record it then do a fast replay of it like when the opti prime transformer was er transformed :) that'd be aces!
@Grandmasterdibbler: Perhaps you didn't notice that it says 16+ on the front of the box.
I just got mine today after ordering it last winter and this thing is MASSIVE! I have the Ultimate Collection Star Destroyer set and I thought that was massive but this one looks like it's going to be even bigger. I'm going to start putting it together tonight.
As for the size, the Lego website says its about 3 feet long! Biggest lego set I've even gotten!
Mine came Friday, and surprised the hell out of me, since I wasn't expecting it to ship until Oct 1, and I hadn't gotten any emails about the shipping. I actually did get an email about it being shipped -- six hours after I received it.
I still haven't figured out where I'm going to put it; the Lego Death Star II and Lego Star Destroyer pretty much occupy the primo flat space in my place. :)
Put those interns to work and build that shit!
How big is the Death Star model? It must be pretty big if it's taken up that much room! I thought it was coming out on the 1st of October too but then when I happened to be checking the Lego site about the Falcon, imagine my shock to find out that it was now available!
LEGO needs to make all future models to scale according to this. Also, new sets should come with a tent to put the damn thing in out in the garden, 'cause people's rooms must be seriously filling up...
I come from the area where the main office and original production is situated, and I know a few people who could use the jobs that would bring about :)
I think I'll be going for the Vader Tie Fighter.
Liked that thing in the Movie.
Anyway. Jesus, you will never again need grey Lego parts
@mangochutney: I wish. The model is not mine. It's Dlinc's, who has graciously gave us the photos of the unboxing.
after couple weeks of putting together, you find out you're missing a piece...
ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
@jesusdiaz: bummer!
I gave up LEGO except for one racing car that still resides on one of my cupboards.
I still have four huge crates of parts somewhere round here.
@icepick314: That happened to me once in my life.
I was 12 years old and had just bought a huge truck with a trailer and a helicopter.
I realised that a crucial part was missing (one of those custom parts). That thing wasn't a gift, and I spent about 120 Deutsch-Mark on that toy.
So I wrote a letter to Lego Germany, with a picture of the missing part attached.
About two weeks later they sent me that missing part along with a second model and a apology.
I gave that second model to my best friend as a gift.
This just says geek all over it...
I wish I had the space for this.
Can we get a close up shot of the specs? I want to make sure it can make the kessel run in 12 parsecs.
$500 - that's interesting. So how come it cost 549 Euros in Euro-rip-off-land. That is over $775!
Can someone get me one in the States please :-)
Funny, you are!
I have the Star Destroyer set, now 3rd largest with 3000+ pieces, and it took me over 10 hours to assemble. The Millennium Falcon has to take 15+ hours with its 5000+ pieces. But it does fall into the correct pricing for the piece. I figure a set should average ten cents per piece.
Have you finished building it yet?
@jesusdiaz:
what's the number on your set?
I'm waiting for mine...and I guess it'll come sooner.
halo wha? I got LEGOs!
can anyone post on where they put these things?
I would buy the star destroyer but where would I put it at 37 inches? They need a wall or ceiling mount.
No, I haven't finished building mine yet. I started last night. The toughest part is finding all the pieces needed! Hard to organize these lego pieces when there's just so many different types. It's already pretty massive. What impresses me thus so far is that it's got a pretty good inner structure so far. I think this will be a sturdy kit. The Star Destroyer was pretty fragile.
Remember that Brady Bunch episode where those snotty kids are building the giant house of cards and someone (I think it might have been the dog) knocks the whole thing over? Imagine that.... TIMES 10! And with LEGOS!!!
bwaHAHAhahahahaha.....
for a scale reference the box shows the cockpit holding FOUR mini-figs! like it should. the instructions (all 4lbs 2oz of it) have a concise piece list at the end and as all lego nuts know you can not only order any (god forbid) missing parts but if you get the instructions and the part list (easily found on-line) you can build it without ordering the box set. or you can customize... but i think it is probably cheaper to get the box. $500 for 5000 pieces = $.10 per; anyone know what lego charges per piece?
