I might have watched this, had it had Johnny Depp in front of the cameras, and Alfonso Cuaron behind it, as originally planned. Now the movie version of Speed Racer is being lensed by the Wachowski brothers with Emile Hirsh, Matthew Fox, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Christina Ricci. But we're only here for the gears (and a view of the cockpit), aren't we?
More cockpit, less Thespian Bollocks, please.

Shaweet... Except it's five seconds of car and then some old people... and the car looks a touch too big to be right
Hey, Speed! Burger King called... they want their logo back.
Everytime actors try to sound intelligent it makes me think of Team America.
Just shut up, smile on the red carpet, and cash the check. DANCE MONKEYS!
I'm gonna own that car one day.
I swear it.
Boy that Pops Racer sure knows how to design a car!
Those guys need to learn how to unviel a car! Give me a break!
One smooth motion, and the sheet comes off.
Fold it up after you're backstage, and not as you pull it off the freaking car!
Even with the mute unvieling, I still like it.
Has Christina Ricci ever seen Trixi in action? Who's playing Chim Chim? More questions than answers at this point, but man I want that car.
I'm heading for the trunk of that thing, because I'm pretty certain if I hide there long enough there going to be candy!
Who plays Racer X?
He was possibly the coolest character on that whole show next to the car.
I think that show was responsible for many people at least trying the arms fully extended driving position at least once, if not also the gloves.
-if not also the dialog...
There was an episode of Speed Racer ("The Most Dangerous Race") where Speed was blind and had to finish the race against Snake Oiler of the Car Acrobatic Team by getting verbal directions from Racer X in the passenger seat:

Didn't the Wachowski Brothers already DO a film in which the protagonist was blinded and had to finish something....?
Matthew Fox is playing Racer X.
@ Strider_mt2k - Matthew Fox (the doctor from Lost) is Racer X. I was gonna give you crap for not watching the whole clip before asking (he's in the clip), but it was admittedly rough trying to pay attention to the first few fogies talking about how they never dreamed of cars like this when they were inventing the wheel, and blah blah blah. Plus, I'm pretty sure you own Gizmodo by now, and I didn't want to get banned for anything less than a bomb threat. C'mon, geezers - how about more explosions and boobies, and less talk of what you always wanted from life when you were an f'n 6 year old back in the 1920s. Your Hollywood is to blame for me having the attention span of a chickpea - don't go holding out on me now.
Ahhh, age descrimination - one of the last acceptable social vices.
Formula one-in it!? What a dipshit.
Alas, I skimmed through the video looking for car footage and missed the majority of the blah-blah.
Hangs head in shame, but briefly.
Is this embarrassing? As soon as I read "Matthew Fox" in the post I thought - oh, as Racer X of course! Couldn't possibly be as Speed.
I'm all in favor of this - he's the perfect stoic, emotionless Racer X - and looks just like him to boot. (Or would if wearing a mask....and thin racing goggles...well, his head is shaped exactly the same.)
So this is yet another driveable full-size Mach 5 mockup? What about the one built on a Corvette frame, sitting idle in the Peterson auto museum?
Dear Wachowskis, two suggestions:
1. Digitally distort all the actors skulls so their eyes are enourmous.
2. No sync sound. Have the performers trapjaw their mouths when speaking and then cram in hurried, non-sync'd dialogue in the ADR sessions.
Instant fanboy validation.
Holy smoke! I would sell everything to buy one of these Mach 5 cars. I loved the cartoon growing up.
PSSttt dudes....has anyone seen my car lately...it's white with a red "M" on it....i think i saw it on a video...please call if you see it, i need it back...
Hearing Emile Hirsh talk about his role and his driving style was like listening to a 13-year-old from Orange County talk about "that one time" he and his buddies "did that thing" "with that guy" "at that place." It's nails on a chalkboard to anyone with a 10-grade vocabulary. Shudder. I hope he's a very, very good actor, because I'd hate to see the actual Emile Hirsh come through on film.
Bogus. The steering where should have a bunch of lettered buttons on it, with a big "J" one in the middle.
Hmmmm...Speed's dead brother was Rex Racer. Mysterious rival is Racer X.
Rex Racer.
Racer X.
Racer Rex.
Racer X. Oh my GOD!
Christina Ricci is Trixie??? [Bleeeeech...]
we are missing what really matters:
When will this beauty start mass production, and how many of my internal organs do i have to sell to get one????
hav a nice day.
Hmm... Radio personality Russ Martian in Dallas has had one for years... Signed by the original voice actors I seem to recall... He also has a nice collection of Batmobiles... http://www.russmartin.com/ (see right sidebar of pics of both)
Christina Ricci would be a better choice to play Chim-Chim.
how can we call the wachowskis brothers when one is a woman now?
How will we be able to see Matthew Fox do "Jackface" if he's obscured by the Racer X mask?
I'm still trying to figure out how this can be a movie about X and Speed and still be a family film.
That car is ok... but I'd still prefer a Batmobile.
Umm...what about Spritle & Chim Chim? As for Ricci, wasn't Trixie tall and waif like thin? I presume Goodman is Pop's, so Sarandon must be the "Evil" character, which fits, but she'll probably play Mom Racer.
Anyways, you would think Pop's wouldn't have put the secret plans in the winshield, but hey.
Mach Go Go!
This and the original Johnny Quest series were my favorites. They straight up shot people in Johnny Quest.
Boo yah! John Goodman, Mathew Fox, Christina Ricci. Wachowski Brothers... I so WANT to be there! Aiming for a G rating, I find distasteful, but hey, if it acheives some of the visual splendor of Dick Tracy minus the adult subtext, I think I'd good to go. I want to want this movie. Speed Racer was probably one of the earliest cartoon lyrics tattooed to my brain, like that old Spidey cartoon.
Speed Racer was the best. Hope some good can come of this to the kids of today that have never seen speed racer. I hope they have the theme song in the movie. They should make this car for all of us here on giz!(with a Ford GT engine or something some nice supped up Japanese engine) We'd know what to do with all those gadgets. **Daydreaming at its best**
Ace! they got the car pretty dang right! But for this movie to be even close to right they have to get the dialogue all out of sync. HK style.
This car is freaking awesome. They spend 5 million for it. 1700 bhp at 8000 rpm and 1400 lb.-ft. of torque at 5500, a quarter mile in 2.6 second at 1971 mph(bugatti veyron use same time for making 0-60 mph), lap around the 2.5-mile oval in 33.12 second, real a-g function as in the animation, and bullet prove. This thing can just go and race in most kind of car racing. I'm so want this car.
for more in formation.
