If you consider yourself something of a handyman, my guess is that your toolbox at home has become increasingly filled with laser guided goodies over the last few years. That having been said, feast your eyes on this new laser guided hand saw. I could be wrong, but it seems like it would be fairly difficult to maintain a straight line with the beam flailing wildly about as you work — but hey...it has a laser on it! I wear a little beam like this on my head, so that I too can be an ordinary tool with a laser.
IMMA CHARGINN MY LAZAR!!!!!
I'm still waiting for the laser equipped hammer. After all, I find it hard to aim at that tiny little nailhead. But aiming at a really tiny laser dot ON TOP of that nailhead? Sweeeet....
test
Laser guides may mean straight lines, but by no means do they mean that your edge won't be diagonal. Lasers don't make things easier, unless you are shooting someone.
@92BuickLeSabre: nice. almost as nice as the headline on this one :^) Who knew that all the funny people posted at this late late time (ok, I'm visiting family in the old country for a few weeks :^)
if one draws a cut line on the wood first, I can actually see this being a really cool feature.
there is a dr. evil comment somewhere there about frikkin' laser beams. would somebody funnier than me please post it...
The fricken laser is only pointing in the same line that the saw is cutting. If you turn the saw it's not a straight cut anymore...
Detach the fricken laser from the saw, attach it to the board then cut along the line.
omygosh its a lazar! lol, FAIL
At first I looked at this and thought it was stupid and useless. Then I looked at it even more and realized it was extremely stupid and useless.
Look at where the laser is positioned. Look at how he's using the saw. Who actually saws like that? Most of the time you'll either saw with the blade perpendicular to the item being sawn, or with the saw angled completely opposite from the manner shown, so that the laser would be shining off into space away from the board.
It's not just dumb, but it doesn't even work as advertised.
y laser y?
@Improbable: i loled
Now if it was only a laser that cut!
This is a joke - if you go off-line, the laser goes off-line. The laser then points the wrong way to go. The laser needs to be stationary unless you draw a guideline.
@92BuickLeSabre: i laughed irl.
You guys got it wrong, its not a saw for building, its for self defence. The laser is for ditracting ppl before you stab them. They hear you coming, turn around and "wth theres a laser pointed on the ground" *stab*, can also be used for burning the retinas of people you're in combat with, giving you a distinct advantage in those long drawn out fights.
doctor evil would be proud.
@Mandatory_Field: Amateur. What you really want to wait for is the chainsaw with a laser. There's a tool just crying out for precision enhancements.
this is too timely to not be meant as a thanksgiving tool, hint: men with wives who know not how to cook, buy one of these.
Another thing wrong is the example. Every carpenter (including my brother) that I have ever watched cut plaster board uses a utility knife.
@HDC: that's even more precise than the laser guided backhoe I was thinking about patenting.
I believe the intent is to aim the laser at a fix point like a pencil mark or what have you and then saw while keeping laser on the fixed point. Outside of that this is a complete dumbass tool.
It might not cut as effectively as a Lightsaber, or even a real laser cutter, but at least your lines will be (theoretically) straight. At $20, though, it's probably too cheap to actually do its job.
The most ignorant thing I've ever seen. I'm with mandatory_field on this one!
u guys are missing it....no tool savy dude's gonna buy this, but their wives are gonna think they got us something really cool for x-mas.
Just dont put "laser guided saw" on your list or you'll be disappointed
That picture makes me think of sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads.
Wow, this is amazing. With a standard sawing motion, this nifty laser sight will only shine where you have already cut, and that not very well. Also, if you look at the image shown, once the cut gets to the length of the saw blade the laser hits the material. Even if it didn't, I dont know anyone that uses a saw from the underside of whatever they're cutting. I know several people this would make a great gag gift for.
I agree, a laser is meant to be attached on a fixed location that is not moving, that is the way in which you keep a straight line. This is a useless invention, if you move then the guide will move thus no longer keeping a straight line. Who invented this...a blonde?
The point is you still draw the line, the laser helps you keep the saw straight so you don't angle it away from the line giving you a smoother edge.
Uhhhh.. This is simple physics guys. Lasers are infinitely straight (within the bounds of space-time). Because you are sawing in the same direction the laser is pointing, you are always cutting on a straight line. Your cut could look like a polio victims spine and still technically be straight. Hats off to Collections Etc for exploiting a scientific loophole.
