Death Race: Filmed by Running Cameras Over

In an era when most stunt-driven blockbusters are really half cartoon, Death Race's director Paul W.S. Anderson insisted on keeping the action real. The shooting philosophy was something along the lines of, "why blow up a fake car when you can blow up a real one?" So the movie features of ton of real cars packed with real armor plating and real machine guns really crashing. And during an interview with io9, Anderson revealed how he rammed these monster cars into cameras without smashing his film equipment into tiny bits. More »

Logitech Speed Force Wireless Is First Racing Wheel For Wii

As its name implies, the Logitech Speed Force Wireless is a force feedback racing wheel for the Wii with a 30 ft wireless range. It is the first racing wheel accessory for the Wii that isn't a shell accessory for the Wiimote. The 10" wheel rotates 200 degrees and has analog gas and brake controls. Need For Speed Undercover will be the first game to take advantage of the force feedback capability, but I'm more concerned about whether or not this thing will work with Mario Kart Wii. It will hit stores in November for $100. [Logitech] More »

Sony PS3's VidZone Service Gives You Free Music and Video

Sony's just announced a video service for their PS3 called VidZone, which somehow offers up free music and videos, albeit only in PAL regions for the time being. It'll allow you to streaming unlimited music on demand for free, but it's unclear whether it'll be ad-supported, or whether the catalog will be full of only Sony BMG tracks, or whether these are horrible tracks that nobody wants to hear anyway. We'll update with more info when we get it, but this is separate from the current PSN service which already lets you buy and rent movies (which is shown in the screenshot above). [Maxconsole]

New Official Xbox 360 Controller Spotted

Over at a German games convention going on now, IGN has come across a new Xbox 360 controller by Microsoft. Apparently it looks pretty much identical to the old one but includes an entirely redesigned directional pad (which makes sense, because the current d-pad isn't so good). Here's what IGN had to say about the play experience (and to see story UPDATES): More »

iPhone Copy and Paste Between Applications Is Here, But Not from Apple

At last, iPhone copy and paste between applications is here. However, it doesn't come from Apple. Cali Lewis, the ever-smiling presenter at GeekBrief, got the scoop on his new OpenClip open-source framework, which will enable any developer to implement copy and paste between applications without violating Apple's developer agreement. Exit's Neutron Multiplayer Gaming Platform Coming To iPhone

Exit Games has a multiplayer gaming platform, called Neutron, on PCs, mobile devices, game consoles, and BREW phones. It works across devices and hardware, so you can play someone on their PC via your handset. And now it's ready for the iPhone. Today it was announced that the Neutron system of social network-like gaming now has iPhone support, or will as soon as developers code for it. The iPhone, with its svelte shape and always-on connectivity, makes for a lust-worthy multiplayer gaming device, so this is really just the next logical step in being able to play games with your friend on the train from across the world. Xbox 360 Outsells PS3 In Japan, Totally Sold Out

We just got word from Microsoft that the Xbox 360 is totally sold out in Japan, and that's just how they like it. Microsoft's console has been outselling Sony's Playstation 3 lately at a rate of almost 3 to 1, with the Xbox selling 28,116 last at the start of August while Sony sold only 10,705 PS3s. Nintendo beat both with over 41,000 Wiis, yet still has stock available. So we have to question, did Microsoft short Japanese stock on purpose just to claim "sold out" status? Yamaha Branded Deus Ex Machina Motorcycle Exoskeleton On Video, Looks Tron-esque

We've seen this crazy motorcycle exoskeleton before, but its inventor Jake Loniak has just mocked up a video showing what it would be like in motion. Yeah, we're pretty damn impressed, but the guy gets cocky: More »

PlayOn Brings Hulu and More to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Netflix Next

PlayOn, a program that allows Hulu, ESPN, YouTube and CBS streaming from a Windows PC to a PS3, Xbox 360 or HP MediaSmart TV, has just been released as a free beta to the public (well, the first 60 days are free, after that it'll cost $30). And to make things even better, the software should expand to support Netflix streaming and the Nintendo Wii within the year. Finally, that whole console becoming as complicated as a PC trend is paying off. [PlayOn via PS3Fanboy]

Treo Pro Gets a Video, Still Runs Windows Mobile

Slashgear's just found a video of the upcoming Treo Pro, a device that physically looks like the Centro, but runs the touchscreen version of Windows Mobile. The video shows you pretty much what you need to know about how big the phone is in your hand (not too big) but if you want to see it compared to some other things, there were the photos before and also some new photos over at a Chinese site. With all these leaks, the Treo Pro pretty much DEMANDS to be released soon. [Treo Pro via Slashgear] More »

Custom Mini ColecoVision Packs Lotsa Upgrades

While the original ColecoVision console would be a fine addition to any gaming enthusiast's home theater setup, this custom Mini ColecoVision has eschewed nostalgia for modern technology, shrinking the console by 50 square inches in its new case all while making some really great hardware upgrades, too. Sony Not Planning PS3 Price Cut for Leipzig, Spokesperson Says

Those hoping for a PS3 price cut in the near future better not hold their breaths. A Sony spokesperson confirmed on Friday that the company had no plans right now to give you another deal on the machine, and anyone hoping for that kind of news at Leipzig will be sorely disappointed. Given that they slashed the price less than a year ago, this shouldn't be too surprising. Though PS3 sales are still trailing behind the Wii, it's relatively recent discount put it neck to neck for second place with the cheaper Xbox 360. [Reuters]

Nikon D90's DSLR Video Capture Mode Confirmed In Pictures

Nikon Rumors' D90-toting tipster sent them this juicy shot, which appears to confirm the rumored video recording mode on the D90. By the looks of the display there might even be full exposure control plus ISO settings for video, which is awesome if true, and audio recording too. No word on resolution yet, but let's hope Nikon's leading the charge with DSLR movie capture modes here. [Nikon Rumors]

Guy Films Space Shuttle Launch from Passing Airliner

Watching a space shuttle launch from the ground is undoubtedly very awe inspiring, but this video of a launch takes the biscuit: It's filmed from thousands of feet in the air. A lucky guy managed to film a shuttle rocketing off the ground (possibly STS-124) from inside a passing Air Canada airliner. It's less fire, smoke and thunder than a sea-level view, more "Holy crap, look how fast it goes!" Check it out... you may be as amazed as it sounds like he was. [PointNiner]

Nokia's Weirdest Clip Ever Made Might Just Be It

Nokia's teaser site that promised the weirdest clip ever made has just coughed up that video in question, and yeah, it's pretty damn weird. The first puzzle is almost impossible to solve by non-brute force methods if you don't have a Nokia phone, but if you do, it's a matter of watching the video and plugging in the symbols in the correct order. For those of you who don't want to try it for themselves, you can see the video after the jump. We're still unclear what phone this is teasing for. [Open At Own Risk]

Imagine being able to put a handlebar mustache on Grandma in a home video as easily as you could with Photoshop and a digital image. Microsoft showed off new technology called "Unwrap Mosaics" at the SIGGRAPH trade show in Los Angeles that could make this dream a reality without the need for fancy professional equipment. More »

Olympic Gold Medalist Would Like to Thank the Wii

That Nintendo Wii, what will it think up next? It's made us smarter and fitter and stronger and just so much better. Oh, and have you heard? Now it's creating OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALISTS. Japanese swimmer Kosuke Kitajima just took the gold in the 100-meter breaststroke, and instead of thanking God or his trainers in typical fashion, he gave another performance enhancer a shout-out: More »
