Peter Moore Talks Xbox 360 Folding

petermooreguns.jpgOkay, he didn't specifically talk about the same Folding that the PS3 does, but a similar research application. Moore told Mike Antonucci of The Mercury News:

Then if we truly believe that we can in some way marshal the resources of a much larger installed base of Xbox 360 owners, with a processor that's of equal power to the PS3, then you have my commitment that we'll look at that. And if we believe we can add value to solving a gnarly problem such as the medical problems and the health problems that Folding@home seems to be doing, then we'll certainly look at that very strongly.
We've speculated about users developing their own research project as part of the XNA Game Developers Framework and our own Adam Frucci has begged for Folding to come to the Xbox 360, and it seems Microsoft is listening. It would just be so much easier if they just developed the project in house and included it into an update like the annual spring update, which went live today.

"so what if the ps3 can cure cancer, find alien civilizations, and slice bread? who cares? let's talk about what's really important- we've sold more! godd*mn hippie treehuggers!"

  • Am I the only one who thinks Peter Moore looks like the devil?

Seriously, picture him in a red cape, with horns and a pitchfork.

  • They will absolutely NEVER do this. The failure rate is way too high right now (a topic Moore stepped around just the other day in another interview I read). Having 360s on longer, crunching numbers = hotter machines = more failures.

I'm on my 3rd - and I would never leave that thing running when I'm not actively using it.

  • your on your 3rd and you still purchase the damn thing? As for his statement, someones having a hard time admitting that the ps3 cell is killing their little ibm production.

  • I think PC's are better suited for running that Folding program than video game consoles. PC are made to run for hours and hours without overheating. PC's have better cooling systems than video game systems like the PS3 and 360 which overheat after a few hours of intense use. Beside running your 360 for hours and hours running that Folding program will just shorten the life of your 360. From a manufactures point of view I can see why Microsoft is not embracing the Folding program. It means more wear and tear which equals to more warranty repairs they must cover. I don't think Microsoft should do it. If you want to do your part for cancer research then just download the program and run it on your PC or Mac.

  • @ Jmarsh04, i dont think he looks like the devil, he does however look all too much like comrade vladmir lenin

First work on curing my launch 360. Then we'll work on curing cancer.

  • Rofl.

If they ran F@H on an xbox, they'd die in like 2 minutes. :P

Did he actually admit the processors aren't as powerful as PS3s?

He likes to kick himself in the face just as much as Phil Harrison.... :P

  • Why does it seem that MS is copying the moves of the competition so well, thought they knew what everyone wanted. Seems to me that Sony is doing something right.

    Anyways LOL @ omg-ponies
