Despite wireless USB just getting off the ground, Intel is supposedly working on a wireless USB 1.1 standard that will increase data transfer rates to 1Gbps. The standard would move Wireless USB's operating frequency to the 6GHz range, up from the 3-4GHz current wireless USB is operating in. There are detractors, such as NEC's Masami Katagiri, who claim wireless USB is only transferring at 40Mbps right now and would have to hit at least 500Mbps to gain 1.1 approval. Realistic or not, we like the ambition. [EETimes]

but the amount of devices that will have it...i guess it could be some time but we'll see cuz this stuff is obviously possible.
how is USB just getting off the ground?
@Wegmans: wireless usb, champ.
@Wegmans: Wireless USB is just getting off the ground, not plain old USB.
@Acovert31 and Almighty
Thanks! Sorry I read on my mobile and didn't give much though!
@Wegmans:
I believe they are refering to wireless USB. but im not really sure what your question.
I think 40mbps is going to be hard for people to accept. It should be faster than current wired USB and should be on a frequency that has minimal interference along even if there are a thousand WUSB devices in the same room. Also important that it at least have the same distance capability as bluetooth. maybe then I would really consider getting it.
Why Wireless USB if we have bluetooth?
a Bluetooth 3 will be great...
When did Dell start making computers with the number pad on the left? lol
@Aberracus:
Bluetooth is good for mobile devices because of the low consumption of energy thus not being able to product high transfer rate and distance.
While WUSB is meant for higher transfer rate while providing a good range. Not really made for devices that use battery. great for printers, mouse(with rechargeable dock i suppose) external HD and many other USB devices.
@jOEfRO:
I think its a reverse image of a dell laptop. See how the dell logo is backwards?
@jOEfRO: That's great.
See this is what you get when you outsource your photoshopping, Giz. Keep America strong.
@Totalfixation: @SchruteBuck:
sarcasm ^^
@jOEfRO: My God, he's right. The Dell logo is backwards. HOW DID I MISS THAT ;)
haha i was like
'what weird company has its number keys on the LEFT!?'
with so many wireless devices, my brain can't help but melt in the avalanche of it all.
I can't help but think the w in wegs logo looks like a part of me resting on my girlfriends chin.
So is Apple working on a wireless firewire?...er, firewireless?... er, fire?
