  • i thought it was whoopdee dooo, or somthing like that.

  • Oh, I'm so glad that we got our daily dose of unwarranted snark. Thanks a lot guys.

  • wow. i'd like all the people who say apple hardware is overpriced to look at this. these are roughly 200 more for equivilant specs. pretty though, and not bad at all for hardware.

  • I like the look of this better than the iMac, but clearly Apple's pricing is a bit better. The price difference is the cost of Windows, I think. Maybe Microsoft needs to just give their software away, and then this can compete with Apple?

  • That's a sexy piece of hardware.

Wonder if they will sell that keyboard on its own.

I hope that the post left out the "2" in Core2Duo; otherwise, this is a tremendous rip-off.

For this money, why am I not buying a 24" iMac?

  • I guess now that technology is getting smaller it's easier for companies to produce all-in-one's like this, but I fail to see what's sexy about it.

  • Jesus, you need to pay attention to what you write. These are Core 2 Duo processors, not Core Duo.

@Monty: Microsoft doesn't make computers and therefore is not in competition to sell computers with Apple. They sell the operating system software (more specifically - licenses) at wholesale to OEMs.

Moreover, on the business side of the market, where PC manufacturers like Dell are entrenched, Microsoft makes a killing. Every workstation sold is another Windows license, sold through the computer manufacturer. Microsoft sells the license wholesale to the manufacturer who then passes the cost with markup to the buyer. It's how retail works.

That said, Dell, a computer manufacturer, is in competition with Apple to sell computers and this is a losing entry.

  • Am I the only one who hates blue LEDs? Seriously, I don't get it. Why are so many manufacturers using them? Does everyone really think they are that cool? It seems like everyone wants their products to get noticed but if everyone does it, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? (ie Nintendo, every pc case maker, etc.)

So for $250 more than the entry level XPS, I can get a set of wireless headphones and an extra year of warranty service? That's on the same level as charging $200 for a different paint job.

  • Jesus...why'd you edit your post and remove your sassy "whoopdie-doo"

    Kind of lame no...

  • Oh, you forgot to mention the BD disc burner on the high-end config. Ha, iMac-wannabe, this thing beats them to the ground.

  • iMac-wannabe PCs
It looks more like an iMac's evil twin than a wannabe. You can tell because it's dressed in all black, drinks hard liquor, has a tattoo.

  • @dontforget: That's "whoopie f-ing doo."

  • It should be noted that the iMac is on the low-end of the Mac line, while the XPS One is being marketed as a performance machine. If you add in the costs of the XPS premiums (like the TV tuner, wireless 'board & mouse, and increased memory) to a comparable iMac, the two stack up comparably, although I'd personally give the edge to the iMac due to graphics cards in all models and larger screen option.

  • @Singlespeed: You're probably the only one. You could always just start your own company and then when you're in charge, you can do what you want.

  • I guess this throws the whole I got PC cause its way cheaper than a mac argument out the window!

  • you know you're in trouble - from a design perspective - when even the marketing photos show off the terrible fit and finish. this thing is ugly, made all the worse because someone actually tried to make it look good. i don't fault the designers though, clearly it was either a last minute decision after the internals were finished, or the engineering team had the final say.

  • The touch panel on the monitor and the smoke glass base are a nice touch - very modern. I am glad to see industrial design trending away from the white and silver motif created by Apple.

  • $2,399... top-of-the-line ... 256MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro

Wow. Bottom of the line Discreet Graphics, Top of the Line Price... I'll Pass. Thanks.

    @REMMINGTONSHOWDOWN
    Agreed. "whoopdie-doo"

  • It would seem that most people didn't notice that this thing has a DVD burner in it and a TV tuner as well. Guess what people. Complile your own shows by using the DVR function in Vista, edit and put them together using the bundled Adobe Elements Studio and burn then to blu-ray DVD (if you want). Yeah, even when compared side by side with the Imac - it still doesn't have a Blu-Ray BURNER in it. The cheapest I was able to find was nearly 600 dollars for an internal Blu-Ray burner. And then its not slot loading and intergrated into the machine.

  • @PuckOTG22: Sorry - Not a DVD Burner - a Blu-Ray Burner. I mis-typed.

  • @PuckOTG22: only the top end model...big price difference when you look at adding the features to a $1600 imac, still less than a $2400 xpsone.

  • hell, for that kind of price difference, you could almost buy an apple tv, airport extreme, and that new creative tv tuner.

  • That is pretty badass considering it has a Tv tuner, media card reader, ms office, and a Blu-ray burner.

it is a bit slower than the imac that is $100 less though.

  • Classy. Pat on the back to Dell but compared to the iMac it's going to be an uphill battle. Spec-wise the iMac wins every category (less the tuner of course, dammit), is sexier, has a better OS, and is hundreds cheaper. Wait, wtf...just buy an iMac and a legal copy of Vista.

Step in the right direction though. Options are good.

  • Also I noticed the fact that all of them come with an in-home warranty.

  • I dislike it for the same reason as the iMac. Integrated non upgradeable computers are a bad idea.

  • While being limited to upgrade options, how often does one really upgrade without doing a full system replacement anyways. Anything you can upgrade that is worth upgrading will be around 3 years down the line, interfaces change. This comes from a guy that uses server cases and have 6-8 HDD in his comps. This is a really nice computer.

  • @HexiumVII: good point. i bought my last case/components with the intention of upgrading 2 years ago. bought the best mobo on the market at the time and cheaped out on hdd/processor/video/ram. in theory i could double the performance of everything in that system with upgrades that are no longer standards, but for what it would cost me (even 2 years later), i could (and did) buy a new imac.
