As tasers turn into must-have gadgets for self-defense and police officers alike, dubious tasings have apparently also gone epidemic, making taser-proof clothing a must for any activist's, driver's or breathing human's Christmas list. Today's exhibit: A woman walks into a police station, wants to give up her one-year-old, then tries to leave. Guess what happens? To be fair though, if she was more cooperative, she probably wouldn't have gotten toasted. [Liveleak]

'Tis the season? Buzuzuzuzuzzuuuzuuzuzuuuzz
Yeah, because cops aren't trained to handle those kind of situations at all, so I could understand him going gonzo apeshit on the pregnant woman.
WTF man, that cop needs to be FIRED.
Tasered and fired.
phuking ridiculous
no way in that video she was dangerous enough to reqire a taser
to loosely quote michael coren in reference to the 6 (trained police) on 1 (unarmed older man) taser death in vancouver "so you may get punched in the face while using reasonable force, i'm sorry, but your a cop and it's your job"
It's truly disgusting. What if it was someone with a pacemaker?
Yeah and if I accidentally taser a cop thinking he's trying to break into my house I'll go to prison or get shot.
Stop, or I'll...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap!
While I don't like the story I find how you included a Pokèmon into the story quite humorous.
Is it so hard to NOT RESIST a cop? Have them fired after, but why get your butt zapped because of your ego??
@Kaiser-Machead:
didn't you mean: 'taze the season?
@phatsac: Too true. Similarly, I knew (yes, personally) a couple of guys who were arrested for essentially resisting arrest (yes, I do see the irony already) because they didn't stop when two cops yelled at them to stop while they were walking from the bus (yes, just walking from the bus to their homes) in an only semi-safe area late at night.
Oh, did I mention that the cops were plain-clothes, didn't show their badges, and didn't identify themselves as cops? You know, but they couldn't, cause they were trying to blend in, in plain-clothes and all.
Good times.
@phatsac: What if said cop walks up to my car window fingering his pistol and I tase him, thinking he's trying to carjack me? Do I get a pass because it was self defense?
Isn't that guy at the end of the video Bling Bling?
What's really important is that the officer went home safe that night.
Dont Tase me Bro Dont tase me.
I don't know why you people make it so difficult. It's simple. If a cop is telling you to do something and you don't follow instructions, nothing good is going to come out of it. Is it that hard to understand? That's why I've never been shot at, tased, baton'd, pepper sprayed or anything else by the Police.
I always say it's best to tase the shit out of everything/everyone then figure out what is going on.
I don't understand why the cops tase everyone so readily. Not so long ago they didn't even have tasers, and they were perfectly capable of detaining a 6'5" 250 lb man much less a 150 lb pregnant chick. Not to mention AFTER she was down he tased her??? WTF?!
@CruJones: No kidding. I was telling some Burmese Monks, some Pakistani Lawyers, and some peace marchers the same thing just the other day.
(I kid. I kid.)
@websyndicate: That should not taken that long...14th post...geez
Tase 'em all, let internal affairs sort it out.
Hey wouldn't it be cool if the kid comes out to be the FLASH like in some comic book. Blade's mom was bitten by a vampire and he came out a "Day Walker". I tell you someone should keep an eye on the kid as soon as he/she pops out.
@phatsac: prison? ...try your second guess.
@s017jrs: Now that's funny!
lol
the guy in the end of the video have a maniac look
@Moordryd:
Check his collar for the crack pipe.
Aw now I made myself feel bad. Thanks Moordryd.
Hmmm...so... hypothetically, if the fetus died or was harmed as a result of the tasering, is the officer charged under the Unborn Victims of Violence Act? It says that the assailant doesn't have to have knowledge that the woman was pregnant or have had any intent to harm the fetus.
He could have cuffed an unarmed woman as easily as he took out the taser. These things should be illegal. He Fucking tased her neck. Her NECK. WTF?! *W*T*F*!!!!!! I don't even know why they insisted on getting info. To hassle her? These a safe anonymous drop points. They don't have the right to question her. FOUL FOUL FOUL. And shame on you, Matt, and anyone else who thinks she deserved it in the least.
@chumitz: Beat me to it!
@technobee: Well considering he tasered her in the neck, I think the chance of the fetus being harmed by the taser it self were rather low.
That being said, I live in Jacksonville Florida, and we've already had three taser deaths in the past two weeks (That's just my city, there have been others around the country and Canada). So yes, I think the police need to get a handle on how they use the taser, considering its suppose to be non-fatal.
Whatever happened to swabbing pepper spray into the eyes? The times are moving fast and I'm being left behind.
My bad, the third didn't happen in Jacksonville, but anyway. There you go. Obviously the policy on tasers needs to be redressed.
@CruJones: i've done exactly as they asked (not doing anything wrong btw) and had my dick searched a little ling for my trouble.
Every time one of these taser videos pops up on the internet you get the cops saying "we had to taser them they were so agitated." I'm so sick of this bullshit rhetoric.
@EMoShunz: *long...not ling...if it was a hot asian chick named ling i wouldn't have minded :P
People are stupid. I can guarantee you that I will never be shot or tased by the police. If you are stupid, like being pregnant and trying to give up your kid to the cops, then you deserve to be tased. He should have tased her belly to save that kid from an irresponsible mother...
@slaughter: i'm gonna try and say this with respect...
it's more responsible to realize when you can't do something and give the kids up for a better chance then to just keep the kid and be a terrible mother. she may have been very right to take her kid to the cops.
how would taser proof clothing help, she was tased in the neck while incapacitated. don't people have hand cuffs anymore?
1st: The Taser is a safe less-lethal weapon--people who have died after being tased have died of other causes. (Check out taser.com for more info and studies that have been done.)
2nd: The law in Ohio (where the video is from) says that you can drop off your child no questions asked 72 HOURS AFTER BIRTH, not a WHOLE YEAR LATER! (ORC 2151.3516)
She's abandoning a kid WHILE pregnant with another one! So then she decides to leave after telling the officer she doesn't want her kid, so what's he supposed to do, let her leave so she can go dump the kid in the river? People would be screaming and yelling that the cop should have stopped her when he had the chance! The cop followed the law and used force to detain and arrest a suspect, which is exactly what he not only can but is obligated to do. He might have saved that child's life! GOOD F'N JOB!
Wow. Amazing how many people on this comment section don't know what to do when they see a video of an older black man talking. Maybe its his leather cap? Are his eyes bothering you? Maybe he's making too many sudden movements. Grow up people, he looks and sounds like a guy answer questions about a disturbing incident with the police. Get out some, m'kay?
@CWGUTH: Sounds good to me.
You think this story is messed up just move to the Dayton metro area and watch the news a week. Stories like this don't phase me at all anymore.
COPS.....ARE......PUSSIES......THAT GOT BEAT UP IN HIGH SCHOOL
it's basics, the ruling class as set out a mandate to start cracking down on the sheep's, too much freedom.
Take for instance police brutality, that stuff was going on in the African and Latino community at least twenty years b4 whites in America start taking it seriously. Now the cops have move on to do more deadly force, while whites are just getting tazed, it's a progression.
Until people stand up and say enough is enough, it will only get worse, if whites took Africans and Latinos seriously In the first place, it would not have gotten this far. Remember Ice T cop killer and NWA fuck the police,what do you think they were talking about.
That woman should be charged with something , how can you decide you don't want your kid no more, and have a next one on the way.
@cwguth: And there's a report on smithandwesson.com that says no one dies from gunshots, just from unrelated blood loss or mysterious damage to their central nervous system. Taser has a vested interest in saying that their product is safe; their sales are based on a perception of nonlethal stopping power and lower liability.
Except for all the people that get tased and never wake up.
Anything that can reliable stop a person can kill a person. If the police were doing a full physical and medical history on folks before they decided to pass a few thousand volts of electricity through their bodies and shut down their CNS then maybe it wouldn't be complete crap to say they were safe. But for the police, without that individual knowledge but knowing that they deal with a high percentage of people with unhealthly lifestyles to go around zapping people, having "other causes" to write the deaths off to is ridiculously conveniant.
I'm tired of hearing about taser incidents and the cop's attempt to justify them when it's the first thing they use.
Shit like this is why the RCMP is still getting flack from the public because a man was killed from the taser 20 seconds after they arrived on scene. The worst part is, they claim he was in an agitated state, and it was necessary, even though a 10 minute video showing the victim prior to him being killed with two taser shots was in hardly any condition to resist the police.
I think the jackoff who runs taser international needs to be tasered each time a policeman unnecessarily tasers a person, and then claims they were in some bullshit condition, such as, "aggravated delirium"
I could be wrong (say it isn't so!), but it appears as if he tazers her after she's already forced to the ground. Wha? I thought tazers were for disarming attackers or "dropping" people remotely and non-lethally. Why the hell would someone use a tazer on someone who's already effectively subdued?
FYI I found the full article in the Dayton Daily News that has a few more details for those interested. LINK
@JUNYO: When you say "people with unhealthy lifestyles" do you mean criminals who use illegal drugs? I assume so since the vast majority of people who have died after being shocked with a Taser are found to have extremely high doses of drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine in their bodies. I find that decidedly inconvenient for everyone involved, especially the cops who are vilified by an uninformed public and the media for doing their job.
How often do we hear an uproar about similar incidents and then find out that the officer is cleared of any wrongdoing by both internal and external investigations? (Or never hear about it again because the media doesn't report the non-sensational outcome of the cop being justified?)
@WITEHOWL: Tasers can be used with the cartridge that fires probes out to knock someone down, or they can also be used like traditional stun guns by taking off that cartridge and applying the charge directly to the person to gain compliance. That is an acceptable use of a Taser and is taught by Taser instructors.
Without the Taser, cops would have to use another kind of force that is MUCH more likely to cause injuries, like using a baton or striking the person. The taser allows them to shock someone to make an arrest or get them under control without breaking limbs.
Also, she wasn't subdued. She was on the ground but not handcuffed and still resisting arrest (according to the news report).
Using the Taser is certainly not risk-free, but with hundreds of thousands of uses it has undoubtedly saved many lives. Here is a link to some statistics on Taser's site (the studies are from independent sources, not Taser propaganda): LINK
@cwguth: wait, let me get this straight. you're saying that you support the death penalty for people who die because they were intoxicated on illegal stimulants at the time they were tazed? are you saying that cops should get a pass and not have to consider that they may kill if they taze someone who is obviously high?
if people who are on high doses of coke or meth, and tazing them might kill them, then they need to be subdued by other methods. if a cop knowingly administers a severe electroshock to someone he knows might die due to his intoxication, that cop is using excessive force.
@Cleverboy: LOL, well said!
Not sure whats up with some of you. You have no idea what the woman was saying, or how she was acting and reacting. Actually it seems she was acting a least a little irrationally and being uncooperative. Yet you immediately assume that the cop just fancies shoving a taser in her neck for a laugh. Please!
You're the same people who demanded TSA heads when "Stroppy Mom" wanted special treatment and got refused.
@lizard: Do not put words in my mouth. I did not say I support a "death penalty" for people who die while high, but I absolutely do not support blaming an officer who used a proper application of force against a suspect according to the law and his/her department's policy. Also please enlighten me how it is you can immediately tell by looking at them that a person is "obviously high" versus excited delirium, emotionally disturbed, homicidal, suicidal, etc?
@lizard:
I'd like to see statistics of deaths and injuries incurred during arrest compared between say baton use, physical restraint (and punching), tasers, firearms and anything else you can think of.
Well apparently the cops didn't know she was pregnant, so until more information is found out I'm on the cop's side.
And on a side note, is it me, or do a lot of reporters sound the same?
if a cop told me "STOP OR I WILL TAze YOU" i would.. 1.. STOP... and two... NOT GET TAzED.. now im not saying he REALLY needed to use it.. i mean what if it was a 250pound man bring a kid in there.. and saying "TAKE THE KID TAKE THE KID" and then once police wanted to talk.. the guy said "NEVER MIND" and started to leave with the kid.... you would start to go "what the hell is going on"
now i DO realize that things were diff.. one she was unknowingly preg.. and two ... it was a woman.. but im just saying.. this whole thing could have been avoided by her stopping.. and just talking.. or calmly explaining she was going to leave..
but everyone hears "cop tazed preg woman" and they are all WHAT THE HELL... what if that kid wasn't hers... and they saved the kids life... you have to realize all the things going on through a cop's mind.. its not like he just wanted to be a dick.. and FORCE this lady to leave her kid there.. lol
Epidemic... The one in Utah is ridiculous. If there is one thing cops hate its being asked to explain what the fuck they are freaking out about.
Also, 2 years ago in Utah my cousin's dad was killed in a taser related incident.
She's already in the police station! It was excessive force. All he had to do was call another officer and held her upright. Granted he wasn't aware of her condition he most definitely could have gone about it in a different way.
@Taime: as did i lol
You know she was a little loose in the head anyway. If she had done what the cop asked, she would NOT have been tazed. And against the guys high on meth or crack, give me extra batteries. They are just a waste of skin anyway. I like to see them do that floor dance.
