How to Upgrade Your Creative Zen Vision W Hard Drive to 100GB

People have made the case for choosing a Creative Zen W over both the iPod or the Zune (16:9 display, DivX support, 4.3-inch screen), but the storage size has always been a little lacking, even in the 60GB model. By upgrading the drive to 100GB, you're one-upping the iPod in both space and screen size. The process looks fairly straightforward, and as long as you follow each step to the letter, you shouldn't have to worry about bricking your player.
Creative Officially Unveils Zen Vision W, 60GB Zen Vision:M

There were rumors all over the Web last week pointing to a widescreen Zen and a 60GB Zen Vision Micro, but now Creative has indeed confirmed the existence of the two portable media players at an event in Singapore. The Zen Vision W sports a 4.3-inch widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) display, plays most of the popular audio/video formats and comes in a 30GB and 60GB variety. Expect to pay $399 for the 30GB version and $499 for the 60GB when they hit stores in late September.

Also officially unveiled was the 60GB version of the Zen Vision:M. The biggest addition here, besides the additional storage space, is its USB Host capability: by connecting a digital camera directly to the player, users can directly upload their digital photos to it. Progress! It'll be in stores by the end of September for around $380. – Nicholas Deleon

Creative Zen Vision W Unofficially Unveiled

A shiny picture of the Creative Zen Vision W found its way into the latest issue of Popular Mechanics, marking yet another time that a Create portable media player had its premature unveiling in the print press (we're looking at you, Maxim). The "W" stands for widescreen, and the 4.3-inch display is a nice upgrade from the 3.7-inch from the current Zen Vision. Popular Mechanics went so far as to say that it "has the best screen we've seen on a portable media player." This dream PMP will come in two sizes, a 30GB and a 60GB version.

What does the Zen Vision W actually play? Again, according to Popular Mechanics, "every format we've thrown at it," which apparently includes several incarnations of Divx and MPEG.

Creative still hasn't officially announced prices nor a release date, but the magazine blurb points to a $399 price tag for the 30GB and a $499 price tag for the 40GB. – Nicholas Deleon
