We'd seen the new Zune in red, pink and black (or whatever its called) but I was curious about the green model we reported today. Here it is, leaked, along with some better photos. Now, is that a pea green? An army green? An evergreen green? Looks kind of like Master Chief's armor. But I've been playing too much Halo. Click through for the rest. well the big one looks nice whats with the black outline around the screen on the flash ones
Pea soup green.
Those looks pretty sweet.
Also it's officially called Jungle Green I believe from what I've been told. Maybe they changed it though.
Sweet! I sent the tip in. Man you guys are fast.
Please tell me they still have the Hard Drive version in Brown and White! I loved the brown, and since Apple stopped making white ipods, its officially cool again!
it also doesn't appear to have the chalk/matte finsih which i love so much.
what a bummer, as far as visuals.
AHH i dont care about the new zune, i want the new features! What are they!?!?
* New Zunes ship in November, date not yet announced.
* All Zunes (including the Zune 30) will have a new, redesigned interface and feature parity. In other words, early Zune 30 adopters will have all the same software features as new Zune 80, 8, and 4 users.
* Additional native video codecs for h.264 and MPEG-4 -- users no longer need transcode those file types to WMV.
* WiFi sync to host computer!
* Podcast support! (Sorry, no over the air downloads -- sync only.) Podcasts can also be shared via WiFi.
* The 3x3 song sharing DRM has had its three day restriction removed, but users can still only play files three times.
* There is still NO wireless music store.
* The Zune software is all new and rewritten, and is supposed to actually be more than a rebadge of WMP10 now. Friggin finally.
* The Zune music store is going DRM-free, with over 1m MP3 tracks being made available for download. Other details (like which labels, whether there is a DRM-free upgrade path is for users who've bought music with DRM, price differences, etc.) are not yet revealed.
@utube2007: I am definitely thinking the same thing. That black border makes the screen look smaller ala Gameboy anyone?
I guess Microsoft had to announce it since all the info was leaked...Surprisingly I heard no hype other than these "leaks" on the Zune 2...
Zune doesn't get the Apple "OMG LET'S FOLLOW EVERY LEAK" treatment.
sweet, i want the 80 gig now.
um... holy cow! that's nice enough to be on a Mac!
so... any word as to whether it will work with a Mac???
Still ugly and still unimpressed. Better luck next time Microsoft.
@teexcue: I must know why it's "ugly".
Really, not at all trying to be snarky or an asshat. I really just don't get how something that's such a sleek and simple design could be outright ugly. I would agree, however, that they should never get rid of their original color schemes -- that brown was subtle and quite nice.
I likely will not buy one, however... far too many useless bells and whistles that I'd be paying for and never using. Who really wants to watch a show or movie on such a tiny screen? (lots of folks do I guess, but it seems very... not convenient to have to squint to watch Jack Bauer kill a bunch of people.) Just doesn't make sense to me. Make it compatible with every audio format, make it read all the tags (ID3, whatever), and sell a headphone amp that's color-matched, size-matched, and rechargeable -- you got a winner.
If that green is like the "wasabi green" of the HTC Touch, then it'll look pretty sweet. Nice design overall, very sleek. Too bad I'm too much of a convergence device person to ever buy a stand alone MP3 player though. One device FTW.
