Early unconfirmed reports are claiming that the new second-generation Zune, or Zune 2, is going to cost $249 for the 80GB version, $199 for the 8GB, and $149 for the 4GB. As for features, there are rumors of wireless syncing and DRM-free music, but nothing confirmed yet. Compared to the iPods, these Zunes are pretty much the exact same price. The 80GB iPod classic is $249, while the iPod nanos are $149 and $199. And if you look at the old Zunes, you can get one anywhere from $165 to $184 depending on color if you look on Amazon. soo...basically exactly on par with current iPod models. What a stupid move.
They should price it with players from sandisk and creative, rather than try to be all like the iPod. That'll never happen.
I only paid ~$150 for my poop Zune, and wireless syncing will be mm mm good.
Sounds reasonable...but let's see what's under the hood!
I need the specs. The only reason i never bothered looking at the first zune, other than the fat guy with the Zune tattoos([gizmodo.com]), is because it was so bulky. If the Zune 2 is slimmed down, IF, i might consider just a little bit the zune over the ipod or sandisk.
oh...and whats with the square-ish touch pad thingy?? can't microsoft just make its own control scheme...
lol seeing all these zune posts on the front page reminds me of when all the new shitpods were released...when this comes out are we gunna see dozens of videos?
@Rob C:
The Zune does have its own control scheme... It's not a touch/scroll wheel type thing like the iPod (at least Zune 1.0).
You click the directions like a d-pad.
You could say the Zune Generation 1's controls where taken from the Gigabeat S as that too had a d-pad. Nothing against the Zune, I like the control scheme better than the iPod one, but its not really Microsoft's idea. And it's probably not really Toshiba's either. Game consoles have had d-pads forever.
As much as people slam wireless syncing, I think that would be very cool.
wishful thinking i could have a 120gb+ zune. Good thing apple released the 160gb classic. Though i'd prefer Zune.
Holy schnikies, what is Giz turning into, Microsoft fanbois? This is the most coverage of a M$ product that I have seen, since.....well....that last Apple product!!!
Kinda dumb how for 50 Bucks more you get 10 times the space...
Zune 2 needs to come out so I can get one before I fall to the hands of an Ipod.
@aaj111: Really? If Apple did that, would you agree with the pricing scheme?
