I did pull the things out of my ear canals after a couple of minutes just to go to the kitchen and heard the commotion. Naturally, he was pissed off and I was shocked by the level of noise cancellation. Neither of my sets of Bose headphones would have been that good. There's nothing wrong with noise-cancelling headphones (whereas there is with people who listen to music very annoyingly loudly through regular 'phones), you just have to be vigilant. I guess this kid learned his lesson. Well, would have if he wasn't dead.

Bitstuff commented on New Entry-Level Canon Digital Rebel XS (1000D) DSLR Coming? So it does, but come on, it's a pretty darn decent lens considering it costs next-to-nothing. Its quite alright in mid-range when you stop down to let's say f8. Of course it doesn't compare to $1000+ lenses but then again, it's not intended to.

Bitstuff commented on New Entry-Level Canon Digital Rebel XS (1000D) DSLR Coming? You can get a very gently used 300D kit (sorry, the original Digital Rebel in the States) for around $350 off eBay. That's cheaper than a large number of point-and-shoots. It might be as entry-level as it gets but very hard to beat in terms of value.

Bitstuff commented on Create Perfect Ice Spheres For Perfect Cocktails It's an age-old truth that girls like talking about themselves. A lot. Go on, let them have their fun.

Back to the balls: you can get the gizmo from "japantrends" on eBay for US $1300. That's insane. Although I would really want one, it would only be for the coolness (pun intended!) and novelty factor, going right next to my green laser and the soon-to-arrive NeoCube and it's little grub. I can see, however, this making a nice visual impact on the professional level of bartending; but that's really it. Unless of course, you can afford $400 a shot single malt on a regular basis and someone to press the ice spheres for you.

Bitstuff commented on Question of the Day: How Much Was Your Electricity Bill Last Month? I live in Ireland so converting my electricity bill to USD doesn't give an entirely accurate comparison - still, the bills have been somewhere around $250 a month for the past year.

I'd say most of it comes from heaters having been on every night; my Australian boyfriend is always cold! I'm from a bit higher north in Europe so I prefer the rooms cooler rather than toasty. As to appliances, we have two laptops that are on for a few hours on weekdays and the TV(s) get switched off at the wall every night as well. No AC needed in this climate!

Bitstuff commented on PlayStation 3 Surpasses Xbox 360 In Europe That's strange, considering how long the 360 has been on the market and the much higher price of PS3, the latter experiencing only minor price cuts. There have been some great deals going around for Xbox 360 recently, some giving away nice bundles for peanuts with extra controllers and games of your choice (yes, including GTA IV). I personally can't even make the leap to full HDTV before there's anything worthwhile broadcast in HD, needless to say I will not spend lots of €€ on a console that might be better at doing the said HD - no difference on a regular big plasma. That would be pointless. Let the market take care of prices and the rest of technology catch up; then we'll see. I'm glad that PS3 is doing well in Europe, but that isn't the biggest market, now is it?
