""The ingenuity of game players is a formidable force that, if properly directed, can be used to solve a wide range of scientific problems," said Firas Khatib of the University of Washington. "Improperly directed, however, it continues to be a force that will inevitably drive half of my Bio Chem 101 class to flunk out of this school. So it's 50/50."
HIV is an adapted form of SIV, which can cause AIDS like symptoms in monkeys/chimps. There are strains of SIV that are very similar to HIV, and some studies suggest that it's these strains that jumped to humans and evolved into HIV. It has evolved to attack human T-cells, which is why I used the term "adapted."
HIV is a human disease and is harmless to chimps, as it is adapted to attack a human's body. A closely related version of the virus, SIV, is present in many chimps and often appears harmless to them, although recent studies are showing that animals with SIV can sometimes develop AIDS-like symptoms.
In a prior life I worked in a call center where we allowed our agents to stand up. It was weird to see, but some people loved it. Personally, I've got terrible ankles from a high school job at WalMart so I'd never be able to stand all day.
Gun sales on Craigslist are legal (but against their TOS) ... as long as you go through a proper process and use a FFL.
That said, this guy is an idiot for 1) not doing it the right way, 2) not researching the law, and 3) having his index finger on the trigger of a weapon at a time when he is not intending to shoot it.
According an August 2010 story by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the risk of an intense earthquake causing core damage to the one reactors is 1 in 22,727 yearly. Doesn't seem too remote to me.
More excellent "OMG freak out!" posts. A yearly odd ... for a reactor that's 40 years old with no apparent reactor issues in the past, experiencing issues that no one really seems that worried about.
Sorry Giz, but I think I'm going to roll with the NRC's opinion on this one.
