Discosis commented on Terminator Ad Looks Like a Rip-Off, Makes Sarah Connor Chronicles Even Worse (NSFW) Bit of an overreaction on Giz's part.

Also, the hating on the series makes me glad I come here for gadget news and not TV reviews.

Discosis commented on Question of the Day: How Many iPods Have You Owned? I had a 3G ipod with one of those dud batteries that could only hold about 10 minutes of charge after a year.

I can't trust that that won't happen again, and I wanted video playback, so I upgraded to an Archos 504.

Discosis commented on Dell's Wasteful Shipping Habits Take a Steamy Dump on the Environment The main reason this stuff happens is that the item is picked by a machine out of an automated warehouse. Noone's looked at it to figure out that it's a stupid shipping method because its just another line item in the database to all the humans.

Discosis commented on Why Isn't Anyone Defecting from iTunes to Amazon's MP3 Store? Because it isn't bloody well available to me in Australia.

Pull your finger out, Amazon.

Discosis commented on How to Be a Great Tipper In Hong Kong many places have a 10% "service charge" that is "handily" already included in your final bill, even if the service was utterly rubbish...

Discosis commented on The Hulk's Greatest Foe: Edward Norton? FWIW, I think this is about more than just "whose cut" will be used.

It sounds as if there's been no/little editing done yet and Norton's trying to exert some influence over the way in which the edits and cuts are made (perhaps not taking over those duties himself). There's a very broad range of possibilities on that canvas (you know, Guy Ritchie's "crash zooms", all the different styles of jump-cut transitions, etc etc), and Norton obviously feels strongly enough about the movie or else he probably wouldn't bother.

I'm sure they'll come to an amicable agreement.

Discosis commented on Hulu Launch Imminent But Will It Suck/Rock/Matter? Hulu will be an awesome way to catch up with overseas television from Australia. Oh, wait ... I'm being told I can't access it from Australia.

Hulu sucks!

(Seriously ... the advertisers will pay Hulu regardless of where the viewer is, why should they care if I'm in Australia? I can't use it as an alternative to downloads, so it seems Hulu's not allowed to make an honest viewer out of me. Oh well, I guess when I see an embedded Hulu video I want to watch I'll just have to go download it sans ads.)

NBCU, Fox, pull your fingers out.

Discosis commented on Air Force Buys 300 PlayStation 3 for Research I wonder why they don't just get them from Sony. I'm sure buying 300 units would net a nice discount, and Sony's likely anxious to play nice with the government.

Discosis commented on Pranksters Bring "Grande" Desktops to Starbucks @roker: I agree, it wasn't really lol-worthy. Amusing for the first minute. The other 2 minutes, I was waiting to see the prank blow up in their faces and get into arguments with the staff.

Maybe I've just been watching too much reality TV.

Seems the staff were pretty cool about the whole thing.

Discosis commented on Contest: Win a Toshiba x205 Laptop Hey Giz, how about doing some market research (a poll perhaps) and finding out where your readers are?

US-only contests blow. For those of us who aren't in the US, anyway.

(Maybe since I'm Australian and I can't enter the contests, I should turn on my adblocker since the ads obviously won't apply to me)

Discosis commented on Nyko Wireless Nunchuk Adapter Sucks Class From Wiis and Ninjas I don't think it's so bad. Nyko's saving people who already have a nunchuk (last check, *everyone*) from buying a new one to get a wireless nunchuk, which is pretty sporting on their part.

Discosis commented on Question of the Day: Do You Prefer Ultralight Laptops? Well this poll just isn't right.

I have an XPS M1330. But it's been beefed-up with top-of-the-line (at the time I bought it anyway) components.

So I have to vote for the ultralights, even though I think the MacBook Air is something akin to rubbish.

Discosis commented on Media Player Knockoff Hall of Shame dustinftw: I saw one of those for sale in Shenzhen (China) recently. Was quite interested until the guy trying to sell it to me couldn't manage to get the touch screen to recognise his touch...

Glad its working for you though, it looked ok.

I wouldn't mind getting an Optimus Touch, seen here ... [www.youtube.com]

Discosis commented on Media Player Knockoff Hall of Shame Yeah, whats with the Meizu hating here?

The M6's are decent players.

Also they seem to be the only company in this lot that are packaging their products in proper branded boxes without generic "MP4PLAYER" labelling.

Discosis commented on Question of the Day: Which Music Player Do You Use? I have an Archos 504 80GB which I've used for a year.

But, while it's awesome for videos, it's rubbish for music.

The "hold" function doesn't work (inexplicably, the volume controls continue to function and hold switches off within 5 minutes of being switched on).

From time to time when tracks are changed, the new track comes up full of static. If I pause it then unpause it, the static goes away. This is more annoying when hold is actually working.

So I now have myself a nice Meizu 8GB MP6 SL. It cost me AU$120 and it's awesome. The Archos is still my video player, but now it has a bit less music on its HD.

Discosis commented on Journeyman and the iPhone Maybe the iphone closeups have been inserted after the rest of the filming was done (likely given the leadtime on filming a series) and sometime after the iphone was released and hit the big time...

Discosis commented on Microsoft Confirms Second-Gen Zune by Christmas, Sketchy on Details MS has failed to make a dent with the Zune in the US, so their next gen device will launch ... in the US.

For feck's sake, if the Zune is a decent bit of hardware noone will care that there's no local music store supporting it.

Discosis commented on Video Proof of the Elevator Floor Skipping Hack Most elevators these days require the use of a supervisor key to put them into express mode.

Some elevators I've seen in Hong Kong even allow you to "unselect" floors that have been selected (by accident perhaps) by tapping the button twice ... you could try that, but it probably wouldn't end well with other occupants.

Discosis commented on iPhone Now Sold Out, Fastest-selling Phone Ever for AT&T Well of course they sold more iPhones now than they've sold phones in the last month.

Noone bought phones in June because they knew the iPhone was coming out (just look at the sales figures!).

Discosis commented on SanDisk Players (Sansa) To Support DivX "Being able to natively support DivX means you can go and grab TV shows/movies off BitTorrent and put them directly on your player without any time-consuming transcoding beforehand."
