"I feel the exact same way about the Bible.
It's a historical text and should not be used as the be all and end all of someone's life, let alone religion.
I think that is essentially what Sales is saying - yeah, these guys are cool and wrote well for their time, but there's no need to revere them as holy and without flaw."
"@lunadude: It is a form a creative individualism.
Are there other movements that can boast that?
Punk, Hippies, graffiti gangs, indie game makers, webcomic writers, and car modders, just for a start...
Steampunk is nothing more than a modding community with a good publicist.
And if you'd actually take time to read the linked article, you'd see Nakamura accurately points out the irony in the fact that it was the Victorian Era that eradicated the "maker", replacing the folk arts and crafts with mass produced machine made goods and services, which is the whole point of the article.
This irony may be known to Steampunkers, but it's never acknowledged in any of the articles about Steampunk, which Nakamura suggests is a failing on both media reporting it and the Steampunkers for not raising it."
"I saw Hellboy II the other night.
I don't think Mignola involved in films...
Mind you, I had only watched Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" a few days before, and really wanted the darkness of that in Hellboy..."
"You gotta give it to the Australian media:
Similar news report here: [www.theage.com.au]
So his best friend drowns, and they use the term "drowning your sorrows" about 4 times, then have the nerve to call google out??"
"Look, governments have got to do this kind of thing.
How else will all those people who are only good at photoshopping their mate's heads onto chicks bodies get employed?"
"I use a hard plastic case because I carry my phone in my front pocket - same one I put my keys in.
My last phone was scratched to hell and the navigation knob broke, but with the case this phone has lasted much longer..."
"People may have a good understanding of the masquerade that is the Bible now, but I think only very few people have read The Divine Bible, as written.
What we have read is an interpretive text based on some and not all the Original books of the Bible.
For just one example, the book of Judas is believed to once have been part of the original Bible, but removed because it portrayed Judas in a better light than the other authors, thus upsetting those in power at the time.
Carbon dating shows the book of Judas, as it appears in an Egyptian Bible, is at least as old as other bibles from which the current bible derives.
The Bible, as it stands today, is missing important chapters, and has been translated into languages and then into other languages that had neither the concepts nor words to describe certain aspects of the Divine Bible, and in many cases deliberately mistranslated because they didn't fit with the dominant beliefs of the translators and scribes (The King James Bible is greatly renown for this).
This is what annoys me so much about people who claim this or that is in the Bible - or that their religion is a more honest one based on the bible.
It's been lost, translated, and deliberately edited so much there's no way anybody on this planet could possibly know what was in the Bible as it was originally written."
"No doubt that this is simply another way for the majority stake shareholders to gain greater profit at the expense of the company, as what happened when they closed Australia and San Diego.
Should be laws against that kind of thing..."
