  • JustADude commented on My 15-Monitor Setup Sure Makes Up for My Lousy Childhood!

"Trust me the black edges is simply due to the choice of monitors in this setup. Look around and you can find monitors designed with multi-monitor setups in mind that have ultra slim bezels and at standard viewing distance they almost disappear."

  • JustADude commented on Question of the Day: How Much Time Do You Spend on The Computer?

"Professional Day Trader, between trading, research and blogs about 16 a day...take a couple of naps but the puter still crunches data while I catch 40 winks."

  • JustADude commented on Question of the Day: How Many TBs Is Enough?

"It doesn't matter how much storage you have it's what percentage is actually in use for storage and also to some extent not duplicated. The more you have stored away the smaller the percentage you will actually use as what is stored grows. The rest is just bits gone to waste. I could grab 500 gigs of MP3 and put them on a drive but I would only use a very small part of that day to day to listen to..the rest is gathering dust on the drive."

  • JustADude commented on Japan Confirms Kizuna Satellite Internet Is World's Fastest, Blows Our Crappy Broadband Away

"I have internet connections all over the world in places I have business branches and yes our prices here are failures by comparison. Satellite has lag it always will but it you are steaming Youtube for example, once it starts the stream you don't care, only interactive stuff suffers. You DTV or Dish has the same delay , it just shifts you by a second or so."

  • JustADude commented on Single Person Cooker Makes Cooking For One Tidy, If Not Fun

"HeyBeav I know dozens of people who travel on the road about 300 days a year as contract workers. Some work in shipyards, some in oilfield short projects, some for refinery shutdowns and stuff like that. Most of them look for motels with small kitchens or at least places that don't have a kitten if you prepare food in your room and clean up. Many pack a double element hot plate, a mini frig and an electric skillet with them where ever they go because many times they are in areas far from any large supply of places to eat for variety. The 100th meal at that sub shop which is the only place in town or grabbing sandwiches out of the 7/11 type store really doesn't cut it after a while."

  • JustADude commented on ONELink Wireless, Networked, Talking Smoke Alarms Tell You When to Get the Hell Out

"Several years ago there was a company that came out with recordable message smoke detectors. Their position was that children reacted better to a strongly worded reminder message of what to do than just an alarm going off. I prefer wired in detectors with battery backup either in each detector or fed off a UPS panel for critical loads in the house. Mine all use lan addresses and are hooked into my security computer and send alarms and warnings over the whole house sound system and notify authorities as needed plus emails me along with calling my cellphone if I am away from the house."
