@ilostmypants: As I recall the brakes are cable actuated instead of hydraulic, but I could be wrong. Even with hydraulic, you could have a coupler system that would prevent leakage and air bubbles.
The day that I let my battery die and get a jumpstart, only to have the govt shut down my engine next to the train tracks, which lets face it, is going to be in the scary part of town, and then I get mugged, beaten, or killed, I am totally gonna be pissed!
Was planning on ordering a Nexus One today. I am an AT&T subscriber, and was planning on switching to T-Mo just for the N1, now this hits and I have a conundrum. Do I go for the subsidized T-Mo, or talk my boss into the unsubsidized AT&T? Dunno if he will go for $530
Just buy a phone that works as a Wifi hotspot. It will save you having to buy a data plan for every little device you own. Several non-fruit phones have this function, you just have to shop around. Besides once you have an iPad you don't need an iPhone anymore, right?

What ever happened to the Carbon Motors Purpose built Police Car?
It seemed like a good idea to focus on a vehicle that had suicide doors in the back for easy prisoner loading, designed explicitly for police. There are certainly enough cops in the world to make the numbers work for mass production and economies of scale.
I guess it just relied on too many beaurocracies making the leap at once
Why a nook alternative? This thing is meant for business professionals with Outlook sync and Note taking. The Nook won't even let you annotate a book you sideloaded and didn't purchase from them let alone take copious amounts of notes.
I don't know of anything on the market that matches the features and purpose of this thing. The iPad could probably do much of that, but it is more of a multi-media device.
Reminder, the new Samsung eReader supports DRMed ePubs and even supports the Barnes and Nobel store and lending features. That means if you have a Samsung reader, and your friend has nook, you can lend each other DRM books. Of course that was never mentioned here when the Samsung reader was featured.
But um yeah the iPad being able to read an open source format that every other device under the sun outside of the Kindle can read is a big deal. By the way, even if it couldn't Calibre is a good program for easily converting between formats.
@thumbmaster: No I wouldn't sell, but I don't buy future cars from that company, and their loss of sales will force them to either improve their quality or lower their price. But I certainly don't buy a new car knowing I will have to overhaul the engine, bypass the governor and put in a mod chip to satisfy my needs.
I have had a few iPhones for a while (I try out one of each Generation)and I have chosen not to use an iPhone because they do not meet my needs. It would probably technically meet most of my needs by jailbreaking, but dealing with the hassle of jailbreaking does not meet my needs.
As long as people are willing to put up with the behavior from Apple, they will continue to lock stuff down tighter and tighter. That used to be Sony's approach until people got fed up over the CD rootkit. People need to get fed up over Apple lockdowns and quit giving them money for it.
Android is a very viable competitor to the iPhone at this point, you should give a 2.1 handset a whirl and see.
@thumbmaster: I know it is all about the adventure of breaking the law (at least in the US thanks to the idiotic DCMA)and sticking it to the man, but honestly, when Apple releases a new firmware and it breaks your jailbreak, are you happy about it or upset. Cause if it is about the challenge of it you should be pleased every time Apple fights back. However if you get frustrated and upset when Apple ups the game, than yeah, you should buy a phone that does what you want it to, there are a lot of choices and getting to be more all the time.
@talkingstove: I remember gettingin a bike accident and being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance for X-Rays and to have my finger re-aligned. Long story short, they turned off my cell phone for me when we entered the hospital. Then when all was done and I was released chock full of pain killers and with fresh new cast, I sure as hell would have been screwed without having my cell phone in a working order to call someone to come and get me.
Tethered reboot would never be acceptable for me. Now if it reboots, and just operates without added Jailbreak functionality, well that would be slightly acceptable I suppose.
Or you could just by a phone that doesn't require Jailbreaking not to be gimped beyond acceptable usability.
Or at the very least buy a phone from a company that doesn't care if you root or tweak the underlying OS (AKA Microsoft, Nokia or Google, unsure about Palm in that regards)
so in all those pictures there is a third controller hovering between the two you hold. Am I supposed to be able to do that at home? Is it a built-in feature or will I need to learn to juggle?
