<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on Apple Can Remotely Disable Apps Installed on Your iPhone]]> @RomeoDude: The certificate system that authorizes the apps to run seems to be flaky: I had that happen to me, but (per a discussion forum entry that I found -- thanks Google), it was fixed by installing another new (free) app. It refreshed the cert or something, and all of the apps resumed working properly. Except Remote.

]]>
<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on Apple Can Remotely Disable Apps Installed on Your iPhone]]> a)How about a non-buggy phone OS that doesn't disable apps all on it's own? I can almost get a whole day of use out of Remote before I have to re-install....

b) You would think that if they were inclined to use it for other-than-clearly-malicious-apps, that they would have done so for apps that require jailbreaking.

<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on Help Please: Power Laces Project For the Back to the Future 2015 Sneakers]]> I'm sure that an electric motor and gearing could have enough speed and torque: Look at the motors used for autofocus on modern (D)SLR camera lenses. They are extremely high speed, and have sufficient torque for dealing with big bulky lenses. It wouldn't have to move the "lace" much either; just enough to cinch down the shoe from being loose enough to introduce the foot, to tight enough that it won't slip out. That seems to be within the range of motion that those motors accomplish in a fraction of a second.

]]>
<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on Study Finds That Most People Solve Gadget Problems with Hurling, Drinking]]> @Xavoc: "he's going the distance. He's going for speed.". I love that song.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: as someone who started out as a hardware tech 22 years ago, and am still an IT professional; I find that if you MUST get mad (and it's far better not to) it's much much better to have a cold and icy rage that sees you want to revenge yourself on the problem. It's controllable/channelable and doesn't stifle creativity and intuition the way that a blind rage does. And then when you have fixed the problem rather than making it worse, you have won.

Ps. No cut and paste meant that I had to retype that quote: Expect to see a lot less quoting on the Internet as iPhone adoption rates go up...

Pps. iPhone is in the dictionary of words fixed when mangled by the keyboard, even though lots of more common words are not. It's as if they anticipate that many users will be narcissistic (also in the dictionary) and excessively self-referential or something. Oh well, they don't matter anyway, only me. Me and my iPhone.

<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on Jet Explodes in Midair, Leaves Us Scratching Our Heads]]> Hahahaha! Once again, Jesus shows that he is the master of the Troll post (and you guys get all excited over just Troll COMMENTS!):

- Jesus writes story that people can slag him over.
- Hundreds of people log onto the Giz to tell him he's wrong and stupid in the comments section.
- Thousands and thousands of other people read the comments about how stupid Jesus is.
- Gawker media gets many page views of people wondering and commenting on this stupid Jesus person.
- Jesus gets huge bonus cheque signed by BLam.
- Jesus laughs all the way to the bank to deposit huge bonus cheque.
- Jesus and Addy buy solid gold water dish for Fred the face-eating dog

And all of you morons are still queued up in line to be the 150th person to say that it's an RC and that Jesus is stupid, and show off your knowledge of RC plane physics... Hmmm, maybe it's you-all who need to get out more....

<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on iPhone Apps We Like: Dynolicious Car Performance Meter]]> @buttrockz: I just immediately went to the app store and purchased this, based on the description. No, I don't indiscriminately buy iPhone apps in some compulsive fashion: This is the first one that I've actually paid money for; although I have tried several of the free apps, and like them. No, I'm not some raving fanboy, but I actually appreciate these reviews, as they help me to avoid the complete crap, at the very least.

]]>
<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on iPhone Apps We Like: Here I Am Location Sender]]> @sfokevin: Doesn't require MobileMe, and will work with any configured email provider. I have 3 currently (all different providers, none of which include MobileMe), all of which are push, and all of which are free.

This is actually a cool and useful app, that doesn't simply replicate capability that's already inherent (like that Parking one, that's rendered redundant by the simple ability to drop pins on your current location in the base mapping app). For instance, I can forsee evenings of harassing/taunting my married friends by emailing them my coordinates -- a progression of bar->bar->seedy motel. Or maybe I should send the last update from just outside a swanky hotel and THEN go to the seedy motel....

<![CDATA[Mandatory_Field commented on Our Favorite iPhone Apps]]> I find Safari to be quite crashtastic, and I'm not liking the keyboard much... Remote is awesome, but had to be installed after borking itself. I haven't tried Pandora yet, as the desktop version didn't work in Canada. All in all, not nearly as stable as WinMob (on 3rd party devices, with 3rd party apps), as long as you know how to manage mem on WinMob. Ironic. Still I am loving it a lot, as it certainly is pretty. I'd love it more with multitasking, cut and paste, more stability and a somehow less crappy keyboard...
