How exciting.

Microsoft could dramatically change their market-share if they could sign a license agreement to use iTunes. Sure, Apple would never agree to it (since that is the reason people buy the iPod), but it would finally make this comparison software-neutral. Until then, Microsoft can enjoy their single-digit market share.

I mean, come on Dan, what do you think is going to happen when your treat your customers like shit?

It is not quite that simple (but close). After all, arguably there is not company in existance that has treated it's customers worse than AT&T, and people are signing up with them. Sprint is trying to take a page from AT&T's playbook by using the Instinct, but the iPhone it is not.

Monty commented on BlackBerry Bold (aka 9000) Officially Official They are still using keyboards? How quaint of those Canadians. It is like stepping into the way-back-machine and visiting a time before Apple dominated the phone business. (Yes, this paragraph is a joke.)

As usual, RIM appears to have created one heck of a phone, and I am thankful that RIM appears to not care about Apple and their keyboard-less device. It is interesting to me that two companies that control the software and the hardware will respectively control the consumer and business space of smart phones.

Microsoft and Palm: RIP

Monty commented on PlayStation 3 Surpasses Xbox 360 In Europe I may be very wrong, but as I understood it, the PS3 is selling better than the Xbox 360 in nearly every place but America, including world-wide. The Xbox is an American game machine, and that is about it.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, since we (obviously) do live in America. But, even here the PS3 (as I understand it) is rapidly catching up with Xbox sales.

Clearly, Microsoft is not going anywhere, so who is selling the most systems is a pointless discussion. But, as far as I can tell, the Xbox 360 is already in third place and, the Wii is still kicking everyone's hind quarters.

Monty commented on Sprint Spending $100 Million to Kick iPhone in the Nuts (iPhone Wearing Cup) This is the right move for Sprint, once you get past the fact that it will not stop Apple.

First, the only thing anyone hears about Sprint is negative. But, if you have a massive advertising campaign on the heels of the WiMax announcements, you are at least letting the world know you are still alive. However, it also shows that Sprint is willing to go toe to toe against the Apple reality distortion field. While they will not be successful in stopping any 3G iPhone sales, they will be successful in planting a seed that the iPhone is not as amazing as everyone says. Once again, it won't stop the sales, but in the interest of competition, it is a good seed to plant, especially from a company that we already wrote off as dead.

Monty commented on Panasonic's DMP-BD50 Their First BD-Live Blu-ray Player Why does anyone bother making these things when Sony is undercutting them with the PS3 at $400? As long as the PS3 is at the same price or lower, these stand-alone players are silly. Monty commented on CNet Scoring System Analyzed; 70% of all gadgets between 6.0 and 7.9 Do you change the scale to represent the high quality of products out there today, or do you simply allow products to all score in the same general range?

The reason to change the scale is that, if everything scores between 5 and 8.9, that means that a seemingly small difference (7 versus 7.5) is actually over twice as large as it seems in the metrics.

The reason to not change the scale is that CNet relies on advertising to pay the bills, and this rating system makes everyone happy (more or less), even if it is less useful to their target audience.

Yes, I have over-analyzed something that nearly everyone concluded immediately will never be changed.
