<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on Sony's Next Gen Alpha A900 DSLR: 25 Megapixels, Due By September]]> It doesn't matter how good the sensor is if the autofocus isn't up to pro quality. That's the only thing stopping these other companies from taking half of Canon's market away.

<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on MSI Wind Laptop to Make Eee PC Cry, "Eeek!"]]> UMPCs are overpriced, useless devices - too big to actually have with you when you need it, too small to be useful.

All they are is geek chic.

<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on Scientists Looking for the Force Finally Put CERN's Large Hadron Collider to Good USe]]> Nathan is obviously right. Basic research is a complete waste of time and money. Nothing good has ever come of it.

But from the way the Force is presented in Star Wars, it's much more likely that it's a sexually transmitted disease.

]]>
<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on How to Comment: Team Fortress 2]]> Even if there is nothing wrong with Vista - there's nothing right with it either. What does it do that XP doesn't - except add more revenue to Microsoft's bottom line? Microsoft's isn't about "innovation" anymore - just forced upgrade cycles. Funny how monopolies work.

]]>

<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on Sony's 25-Megapixel 35mm Image Sensor Is Up For Grabs]]> It's the supporting electronics that make that infeasible - unless you go to a separate body and back, like medium format cameras.

<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on OLPC Woes Never End: Shoddy Record-Keeping Delaying Shipments]]> OLPC is the only chance for anyone anywhere in the world to break the Microsoft/Intel hegemony - that's why they are trying so hard to stop it.

With OLPC as an educational base and open-source software, The third-world is going to leap-frog the first in a couple of generations (while we're still hoping for decent Vista service packs).

What is the First World going to do when all the manufacturing and all the information jobs are overseas?

But the main point is that a 1.6Ghz Mac with 2G of Ram can do everything the normal user would want to - as opposed to a Vista laptop of the same specs, which can't do much of anything.

<![CDATA[NeoPoliticus commented on Flying Stick Camera: Rub It Between Your Palms]]> That would be an extremely easy project to make yourself. All you'd need is a digital camera kit and a timer to trip it. The only problem would be blur if the camera is spinning too, but you could put that on a ball bearing.

Putting it on a Frisbee would probably work better.
