<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on MUTO is Among the More Astounding Videos We've Seen Online...or Off]]> @Chromeo: I'm with you buddy. While I was impressed by the scale of it and all, if there was supposed to be some weird existential story or statement in there, I totally missed it.

Really cool concept overall though. I'm curious how people living in the area felt about him painting all over everything like that.

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Wii Wheel Mount Plays Mario Kart in Stereo(types)]]> I'm mildly enjoying my Wii, but am getting rather annoyed by all of the excess crap that keeps getting hawked for it. For some reason it seems that every game is going to end up needing a special piece of plastic to play it with. Really annoying.

I did however play MarioKart without the wheel since I only had one at first and I let my wife use it (Who says chivalry is dead?) and I found that it was just as easy to play without the wheel, although SLIGHTLY less comfortable.

*pardon my run-on sentence...

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Lots of Nvidia Laptop Graphics Cards Are Overheating, Dying]]> @goaliegeek: It's a hardware issue not a driver issue. There is a driver "fix" that makes the fan turn on sooner to help keep it cool. In what way is that a PC issue that your mac is immune to?
(Granted, I did not take the time to do your research for you and see if your card is a previous gen card)

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on AOL Raises Dial-up Prices For Luddites]]> @StarChaser Tyger: This is EXACTLY what I was thinking about as I read the article. I too spent several years working in tech support. I didn't work for AOL, but I can relate to your woes. And I know that the users of AOL are 100x worse than any other end user out there.

I have no idea how AOL will enforce this, but it seems fair enough to me. I guess they must be working on the assumption that if you are smart enough to learn of this loophole in billing and comprehend it, then you are probably smart enough to understand that AOL is not there for your TV, toaster, engine overhaul needs.

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on TI Builds Pico Projector Into BlackBerry Curve]]> Ok...all of you that are screaming FAKE...might want to actually READ the article. Maybe even click the link to the original article this was taken from. It says this is not a real functioning phone. The other article explains that they stripped everything else out. This is simply a smaller prototype of the projector itself. The previous versions were 2-3 times larger than the curve. If you want to bitch about something, bitch that John didn't relay the entire story, not that the builder is a sham. (Sorry John) It was never claimed to be a working phone. Personally I'm damned impressed that they were able to make a projector that tiny with such a good image.

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Texan Law Requires Computer Repair Techs To Have PI Licenses]]> Well, I've never lived in or near TX, but for all of you snobs talking crap about Texas and all of it's smelly wretched cow farms that you think need to disappear, remember those words next time you're eating a nice steak, or roast beef sandwich, or a Big Mac (although that last one is liable to be horse meat)

@geowrian: you might want to re-read your self contradicting post...
First you say that instead of killing them, he should have shot them in the leg or something. Then in the very next sentence you say that the first rule of owning a gun is to not shoot at what you don't intend to kill. So, by your own rules, why the hell would he shoot them in the leg?? Unless of course he was aiming for their femoral artery...but that would require some badass aim!

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Twist and Squeeze Remote Concept Requires Two Hands]]> @Dynasty: I do believe that is actual size, but the picture is deceiving. It's a practice in the art of perspective. It looks like its' slightly smaller than your average volleyball, but look at it's size in relation to the (apparent) coffee cup which is sitting a few inches away at the edge of the frame. It's still rather large if it's as big as a coffee cup though...seeing as how it doesn't have all those buttons, it should be much smaller. Perhaps the size of the old TV knobs it harkens back to?

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on What Doesn't Break a Toughbook Makes It Stronger: How They Test the Hell Out of Them]]> @TendoMentis: Oddly enough, this article is the first time I've ever even considered using that phrase...it just seems so appropriate. I don't even know where it came from and I never understood its use here...

]]>
<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on What Doesn't Break a Toughbook Makes It Stronger: How They Test the Hell Out of Them]]> @thegadgeteer: People that are buying a computer for its looks have no reason to try to buy a toughbook. They aren't made for you. They are made for people that go into tough rugged environments like the deserts of Iraq, or construction sites, or remote jungle expeditions. They don't care about selling to a douchebag who buys a computer because it is "pretty" or has lots of shiny white plastic...

]]>
<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on What Doesn't Break a Toughbook Makes It Stronger: How They Test the Hell Out of Them]]> Is it just me or does it seem like after the rant about banned and over-used phrases, articles just seem to beg for us to get ourselves banned?

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Waspinator 2 Eliminates Summer Wasps Quietly, Painlessly]]> Actually, the title of the article is incorrect. After clicking on the link to the Skymall catalog (to check the price of the non-upgrade), I realized that it's not "The Waspinator 2" it's a "Waspinator" 2-pack.
No disappointing sequel here...just a disappointing original...

]]>
<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Waspinator 2 Eliminates Summer Wasps Quietly, Painlessly]]> ...to disregard the endless possibilities of jokes regarding the demise of and eventual replacement of the original Waspinator...I was genuinely curious and found this:
The Original Waspinator
I don't see any difference. It even looks like the same picture. So I, for one, am feeling swindled by the non-upgrade...

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Guy Uses Laser-Etch Machine to Tattoo Himself (Verdict: Flaming Nutcase)]]> I too am curious how long the effects of this actually last. As stated above, if it's superficial burning, then the "tattoo" would be gone in a week or 3. But I think we've all seen burn scars that last much much longer, although this doesn't look to be enough of a burn to do that.

Now what would be REALLY interesting (and possibly lucrative) is if someone created a machine that blended this with traditional ink injection tattooing. It could provide the speed and accuracy of the etching process with the permanence of ink in flesh. And that way you could know EXACTLY what your artwork would look like before it went onto your skin, and not just rely on the odd looking fellow's skilled hand (although I'm sure I'm about to get told be all of you tattoo enthusiasts that "that's the fun part")

...may the banhammer be swift and painless...

As for the article...why am I not surprised to find that everyone rushing to be on the cutting edge of technology just wasted their money?
(I know, I know...the power saving isn't the only reason...)

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on AT&T 2008 Smartphone Roadmap Leaked]]> I must say...that Omina does look pretty nice.
The variety of video format playback is a nice touch for an anime downloading geek like myself. I hate having to keep converting things to play on my PMP.
If only I could find something like that with a WiFi capability. I just can't justify the extra monthly cost of the data plans, but I wouldn't mind spending a bit extra up front for the WiFi abilities...
Anyone know of something like that they could recommended?

]]>
<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on AT&T 2008 Smartphone Roadmap Leaked]]> Wow! An article about a cell phone that's NOT an iPhone...although, it of course compared to the iPhone and I'm sure 80% of the comments will be doing the same...oh well. It's still a nice change of pace.

(just jealous cause I can't spend that kinda $$ on a phone. Goodbye Razr, hello Sony-Ericson Walkman)

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Microsoft Midori Is a Secret Post-Windows Operating System]]> @TendoMentis: I tend to disagree about the balance of news. It seems quite lopsided towards Mac products, but maybe that's just because I'm still a relative noob here compared to some...and I'm about sick of hearing about the damn iPhone and every shred of (non)news about every change in it's existence...I hate to break the news to you Giz writers out there, but there ARE other cell phones out there...

]]>

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Microsoft Midori Is a Secret Post-Windows Operating System]]> @M.A.S.: What? You mean after they worked so hard to get away from doing exactly that? They worked really hard at bringing them together in Windows XP and Vista...now you want them to take them apart again?

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Hands-Free Law, Smands-Free Law: Distracting, Dangerous and Ridiculous Things You Can Still Do While Driving]]> @nutbastard:I am COMPLETELY with you on that subject. I can't stand laws that are designed to protect only me...from myself. Being required to wear seatbelts and helmets is ridiculous. I pay my insurance company for a reason. If I get myself mangled, I'm not costing you any money, that's what I've already paid for.

I'm going through a frickin circus right now with the US Army requiring all of these ridiculous safety briefings, counseling statements, training, inspections and daily crap about wearing helmet, gloves, long sleeve shirt, long pants, reflective vest, etc in order to ride my motorcycle on my civilian time (I'm a reservist) and it's asinine. None of that is going to keep me from dying if I decide to be a moron and ride at 95mph on a residential street doing a wheelie through an intersection....

]]>
<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Hands-Free Law, Smands-Free Law: Distracting, Dangerous and Ridiculous Things You Can Still Do While Driving]]> @nutbastard: Yes, but if they are now looking for cops, then that means that they are at least paying more attention to their surroundings. I wouldn't consider looking out for cops to be more of a distraction, I would call that being more alert. Even if your goal is to spot a cop, you might be more likely to spot the oncoming tricycle if you're looking around for a cop instead of staring mindlessly in front of you while chatting about what's for dinner tonight.

<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on Nearly 50 Movie Remakes and Sequels So Bad They Wouldn't Even Go Straight to DVD]]> oddly enough, I thought the Weird Science one with the disney crew seemed to be the best overall submission. Maybe because I've been forced to watch more Disney lately, but that chick is getting HOT! (*jailbait)

]]>
<![CDATA[SgtMac02 commented on OpenTable Mobile Lets You Book Restaurant Reservations From Your Phone Without Dealing with Humans]]> @92BuickLeSabre: Fair enough. I'm definitely not that type...but I guess you have made valid points. I just get so annoyed by the completely "connected" society we have created that is completely DISconnected from humanity. kids that would rather text their friend than talk to them...Go on Myspace to meet friends than go outside the house and meet them...play games online then in the yard or in the park. you get the idea. But I guess a gadget site is probably the worst possible place for me to be thinking like that.
...It's probably just because I've now got a teenager living with me for the summer... :)
