<![CDATA[Skorpius commented on Border Agents May Soon Need Court Order to Give Your Laptop a Cavity Search]]> It really blows my mind that Congress will be closing up for the year. Do your fucking jobs that we pay you to do. Outside of teachers, I don't see anyone I know getting to take off for three months. Its not like we have any problems that need to be worked on till next year, I guess.

<![CDATA[Skorpius commented on News Flash: Moto R&D Working On Prototypes Other Than RAZR 3!]]> Believe it or not, but I'm still using the StarTAC I bought in 2000. Hit the 8 year mark in August. The antennae broke years ago, the battery is good for less than an hour of talk, but its still going. Let's see an iPhone, etc... work for 8 years straight.

<![CDATA[Skorpius commented on iPod Nano 4th Gen Sized-Up Against Its Ancestors]]> I hate this. The 3rd gen fits in the hand nice and has been great for listening to podcasts and a few albums. I wanted a 16gb version of the 3rd gen since a book fell and smashed my screen. Hopefully the price will drop on the remaining 3rd gens out there so I can buy a new one, rather than pay Apple $129 to replace the freakin' screen.

I DO like that they got rid of the fingerprint attracting backside, though.

]]>
<![CDATA[Skorpius commented on $7,100 CD Player Probably Isn't Worth It]]> As you state, "digital files are usually compressed and sound like crap compared to CDs", so why then must one be an "audiophile" just because they prefer CDs. Outside of vinyl, that is the defacto standard of how music is presented. DVD-A and other disc standards are unfortuantely too niche to be included, as well as their catalogs too limited.

To me, someone who prefers CDs is not an audiophile, but merely someone who wants their music to sound as close as possible to the studio recording. Even though the masses continue to be led astray by the poor quality for ease of use factors of lossy codecs, a standard that does not make. I don't understand how we as a tech community do not demand BETTER quality. Video quality is always moviing forward, but audio continues to be degraded.

<![CDATA[Skorpius commented on Why I Hate the iPhone Camera (and Loved the Best Rock Concert Ever)]]> I'm really blown away by the some the comments here, with half of those ragging on Jesus seemingly not able to read the damn article in its entirety. The point is, the iPhone camera sucks, and other manufacturers certainly have done better in this area. No, its not going to remotely resemble a D3, much less a D40, but it certainly can be better than what it is, and it is one of the reasons I'm having doubts about picking one up, amongst other reasons such as video capture, etc...

Great post Jesus.

<![CDATA[Skorpius commented on Question of the Day: Do You Feel Naked Without Your Cellphone?]]> I'm still carrying a StarTAC from 2000 and really don't use it that much for calls when out, but I definitely feel naked without it.
