Lies and slander. I'm very well under 30, and yet I went to the 1998 re-launch of A New Hope in theaters, met ol' George himself, all when I was naught but a babe.
The first time I saw A New Hope, Empire and RotJ, it was in theaters, they were the original cuts, and I love them so much despite their flaws.
The year after I saw Star Wars for the first time, I saw the Phantom Menace.
Even then, at age 7, I knew it wasn't Star Wars. Star Wars isn't about the film quality, or the size of the screen you watch it on, or how loud it is, it's about the journey. Watching Luke, no one but a simple farmer, grow into the leader of the fight for the freedom of the galaxy, and watching him confront his deepest fears and achieve his greatest dreams, all in the short span of 3 movies, is Star Wars.
Star Wars is about me. It's about you. I can re-create the exact same experience right now if I wanted, because the movies don't change enough for it to matter. The only noticeable change to one of the characters that George has made so far is making Han shoot second. When he shot first, it cemented the idea in your mind that this guy was not to be fucked with.
Let George have his fun, he still won't change the core message, which is what matters.
