"@All Your Base Are Belong To Us: a little late, but anyway... Basically all that means that you're getting more power AND less power consumption from various fronts at the same time: the chipset, the CPU, and the GPU, which you usually get separately when upgrading."

"@All Your Base Are Belong To Us: ffdshow can do MUCH more than divx/xvid, especially when paired with a player such as MPC-HC. In any case, yes, there will always be some stuff more powerful coming in the future, but the convergence of all that's coming up that's ideal for HTPC (32 nm, Westmere arhitecture, CPU+GPU in one, HD bitstreaming, ATI 5000 series w/40 nm) is rare, and I don't think it will happen on this scale for at least a couple of more years. In 2010 you'll have Sandy Bridge, but probably the expensive stuff first, and no die shrink, and the next GPU cards won't have much to bring to the table, since HD bitstreaming was pretty much the last important feature to come."
