Get your schools straight, Gizmodo.
University of San Diego is a private college with nothing special.
San Diego State University is where that huge drug bust went down last week.
AND University of CALIFORNIA, San Diego is the one with the prestigious medical center.

dichron commented on Border Agents Can Frisk Your Laptop and Gadgets Without Cause it seems easy enough to create a decoy user account in windows (using your real name) and change the name of your actual account to something like a signifcant other's (provided they aren't traveling with you). then when they want to search, you say you only have the pw to the decoy account, on which they'll find nothing.

dichron commented on Question of the Day: How Much Do You Text Message? @Skeptical_Geezer: I'm not sure if your comment about kids on the bus was a complaint, but the way I see it, I'd much rather they be texting their little thumbs off than listening to them yap (to each other or on the phone).

I do think it's rude to text while having a conversation with someone, or at dinner (though still not as rude as taking a phone call)

My texting volume has been a function of both the cost and my phone. When I had a boring flip phone with no texting plan, I did almost none. Then I had friends who texted a bunch so I got a plan and my messaging jumped. Then I got an unlimited plan (for free with SERO, woot!) and it was another jump. Then came the Centro and its QWERTY keyboard, and I now could just about do without a voice plan.

dichron commented on Happy Palm Centro Day had my centro for about 6 months and i'm quite satisfied. most of my colleagues have iphones and while they're pretty, I think the centro has the following advantages over them:

REAL qwerty keyboard
expandable/swappable memory
an open platform with tons of useful (mostly) free programs
not letting AT&T put a leash on your balls for 2 years

the only things i don't love about it are:

occasional pauses/slowdowns without apparent reason
the rare unexpected restart
the H key has become less responsive than the other keys, and the spacebar has become over sensitive and inserts too many spaces sometimes

I would probably buy it again if given the choice. It also helps that I have a Sprint SERO plan that gives me unlimited data/sms and 500 minutes + unlim N/W for $30 a month.

dichron commented on LiveScribe Smartpen Links Your Scribbles with Audio Notes The ability to "tag" your written notes with audio is a fantastic idea. Like a fellow medschooler mentioned, this would be incredible when taking notes in an information-dense lecture. You try your darndest to pay attention but the simple distraction of writing something down means you might miss what the lecturer says while you're writing.
