Not all monitors, not all printers print the exact same shade of fuchsia. Panatone comes along and says Pantone 17-2031 is exactly what fuchsia Rose is supposed to look like. It makes sure as others have said that a color is certain color. So when you print your Adobe file with that Fuchsia Rose it is consistant from printer to printer. You do not want Fuschia Rose to be Pantone 17-2227
