"It all comes down to price point really. Consumers are getting used to the $5 price point for DVD's and with so many alternative channels avail for distro of new releases it is only going to get harder for DVD only new releases to maintain a decent profit margin. I see this as a middle step in maintaining margins on new releases while encouraging the upgrade to BD hardware. Personally, as an early adopter I don't give a shit about this so long as it doesn't slow the rate of BD price reductions."
