Did we ever find out what Microsoft will do for those who purchased themes?"
"@nutbastard: I have no idea what you do for a living, but if you're not self-employed and have to report your hours, I sincerely hope that you omit the time that you "worked" on Gizmodo today."
"Remote desktop is fantastic from work - of course there is a short lag, but it is by no means unusable (I'd say the setup is about as quick as a PIII computer)."
"My guess is that images with company logos on the middle of a Monopoly board practically flood the internets, and I should probably be ashamed that I've never seen such a thing in my ~decade and a half of web surfing, but I laughed out loud when I saw it.
I have a hard time with the use of "aiming to exclude AMD" - doesn't every company essentially try to "exclude" others in the same market?"
"Unless you guys know something I don't, it sounds more like Sony just didn't want to shell out bundles of cash to KEEP the exclusives as developers saw that expanding to both consoles would be profitable."
"This would be genius, if true.
- The 360 would enjoy a pretty massive increase in user base when various companies manufacture hardware that caters to every niche (for example, integrating Blu-Ray)- Those people holding back from buying because of quality control issues would probably have no qualms about buying units from, say, Samsung- Microsoft wouldn't have to spend research and manufacturing resources coming up with multiple SKUs; if multiple companies compete in the same market, the price of a 360 unit will undoubtedly drop (which again means more units sold, larger user base)- Microsoft wouldn't have to even think about hardware support, which obviously would be huge for everybody- As far as I know, Microsoft still loses lots of money per unit sold; they just make it back because of a high software attachment rate - making ANY money from a licensing fee for any given unit sold is obviously better than losing money
On the flip side, once precedent is set for this, the all-in-one hardware will undoubtedly follow (PCs) and the game will shift to an operating system war."
