<![CDATA[firesign commented on Activision Boss Wants Cheaper Consoles]]> considering the changes in the value of the dollar over the years, i don't think consoles are really that much more expensive now and in fact probably actually cost less. the first new console i ever bought was a colecovision in 1982 which, if i remember right, was around $300 not including accessories like the atari 2600 adapter. in today's dollars that would translate to a *lot* more than any of the current gen consoles. cheaper is relative. it's not so much the cost of the consoles, but because the economy is in such crappy shape people have less disposable income for entertainment when the already have to choose between gas and food.

<![CDATA[firesign commented on First Shots Of PS3 Video Download Service, Due In "Summer 2008"]]> @dapoktan: i have the ps3 and the 360 connected via ethernet cable through the same switch (only the wii is on the wifi). for the most part, especially on large downloads like system updates, i can't say that i notice any appreciable difference in download speed between them. maybe it's your wifi.

<![CDATA[firesign commented on In an effort to spur sales,]]> @balthisar: i'd take my hyundai over any gm product these days. 01 elantra gt. almost 107k, yet to do anything but routine maintenance and wear items. body and interior are still perfect, gets great gas mileage, etc etc. except for the '67 chevy belair i had back in the day let's just say my experience with gm products has been..less than optimal. ymmv of course.

<![CDATA[firesign commented on Wine 1.0 Runs Hundreds of Windows Apps Flawlessly]]> @MyCokesBiggerThanYours: a quick look at the wine page reveals this:

Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris.

so yes, as long as yo have an intel based mac. clicking links is fun!

<![CDATA[firesign commented on iPhone Clone Battlemodo: Which One Is the iPhoniest?]]> @Juggrnott: which is fine, assuming you actually GET a cell signal. inside of buildings that can be dicey. it's nice to have an alternative, not to mention that downloading stuff can be far less painful on wifi.

anyway, the big killer on all these phones for me is windows mobile. no thanks, i already have that p.o.s. and i can't wait to get rid of it. the browser sucks, the mail client sucks. yes, i know all about opera, but since at&t gimps java and i have to give it permission to access the network EVERY GODDAM TIME IT WANTS TO CONNECT, it's not a viable option (never mind that opera has always done shit that makes me crazy).

<![CDATA[firesign commented on 3 Questions To Ask Yourself When Thinking Of Replacing Your Old Car]]> i have an 01 hyundai elantra gt. i'm driving it until it comes apart, basically. it currently has 106k miles on it and has so far never needed anything but routine maintenance and wear parts. the body and interior are in great shape, it gets great gas mileage, it's paid for,and it's still fun to drive. it's one of the best cars i've ever owned.

]]>
<![CDATA[firesign commented on Ultra Late Adopter: Why I Don't Want an iPhone... But Will Probably Cave Anyway]]> i'll be getting one. why? two reasons:
1 - i can't wait to get away from the slow shit that is windows mobile 6.
2 - i'm not fond of blackberrys, not to mention that their web browser sucks. a lot.
apple added the two things i wanted: 3g and gps. anything is is gravy. time to drink the kool-aid.
