Comments from frigg Comments from frigg frigg commented on Direct Note Access Music Software Now Even More Revolutionary One of the things that everyone keeps clamoring for is a way to easily extract vocals for purposes ranging from good to evil. If this were able to dig down into a mix and extract vocals (or any single instrument/track), that would be a new level of creative awesomeness.

Aside from cheesy karaoke implications, imagine, for example, being able to reverse engineer any stereo mix back to its original tracks, or sample a single instrument from within a prerecorded song.

frigg commented on 50 Consumer Technologies Developed by NASA in the Last 50 Years Spinoffs are great, but there's always something about them that seems a little methinks the NASA doth protest too much. I mean, shouldn't space exploration be sufficiently compelling in and of itself that there isn't a need to run around extolling the virtues of an underwater placemat developed by a satellite tech at JPL to justify its bad self?

frigg commented on Who Would Win: an Imperial Star Destroyer or the USS Enterprise? As others pointed out, crew matters. So, if Sarah Palin was at the helm of the Enterprise, and Hillary Clinton was at the helm of the Destroyer, would anyone who voted for the USS Enterprise switch their vote?

frigg commented on Who Would Win: an Imperial Star Destroyer or the USS Enterprise? Well, the Enterprise uses Macs, the Destroyer uses PCs. Of course the Enterprise would win!

frigg commented on Apple's 'Brick' is a Revolutionary Aluminum Manufacturing Process? It sounds like it would let them be able to design something new and stamp it out without having to retool. They could simply reprogram the lasers and supersoakers, and voila, a new form pops out.

Since every big technology innovation can only be real if it's referenced at some point in "Minority Report," since this sounds like it could be something from the Lexus factory scene, it's probably a credible rumor.

frigg commented on Apple Fires Back At Psystar: 'We're Sooo Not A Monopoly' How come so many people support Apple's right to develop an OS and then protect and profit from their investment, but almost no one supports a musician's right to develop an album and then protect and profit from their investment?

Why is it OK to steal music, but not steal an OS?

frigg commented on T-Mobile G1 Unboxed, Ready For Belt Clips Everywhere I think they're trying to make the G1 unattractive on purpose so they can work out the kinks with a limited rollout, and avoid souring Android's rep if there were problems with a more compelling first phone that people bought in droves. Kind of like a public beta purposefully uglyfied to keep it limited, so it doesn't prematurely impact Android's reputation.

frigg commented on Dancing Keepon Robot Goes On Sale For Researchers, Cheap Version Soon $30,000 might seem like a lot, but when you realize that a Peeps Pro (it's the same as a regular Peeps, but comes on a tiny black pedestal) is sold to research institutions for around $50,000 to study the interaction between human subjects and marshmallow candies, $30,000 doesn't seem quite so bad.
