x2 on this one, you beat me to the punch. It's comparing the panny to a year old Pioneer. The new Kuros are out, and are also cheaper than last years.

Also, comparing a 50" panel to a 60" panel may not be a fair comparison either. That said, the Panny for the price is excellent.

@ripfire:

Yes and no. The 800 has a THX certification and THX factory mode. The 850 has a pro setting thats based closer on sencore settings, and has viera cast. Otherwise though, yes. Same panel.

If you don't calibrate your display when you purchase it, then expect half life on ANY display LCD, plasma, or otherwise.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on The 10 Worst HDTV Ripoffs Explained]]> My problem with this article... well there are multiple. However, telling consumers that Deep Color and x.v.Color are useless features is completely inaccurate. First off, just because there are not sources for deep color, doesn't mean there won't be in a year or two years. There is nothing wrong with trying to future proof yourself. Also, same goes for x.v.Color, which CAN be used with an HD Camcorder and will be used in Bluray. It's silly of the HD "Guru" to call these useless, and even sillier for Gizmodo to back it.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on LEAKS: Best Buy's Internal Customer Profiling Document]]> I think this is funny how people are reacting to this as if it's a bad thing. Best Buy is not stereotyping people to segment "good" customer's against "bad" customers. This is put in place for a few reasons. First and foremost BB wants to know their customer's better to cater things to them. This is also an excellent training guideline for some high school kid with low social ability and no sales experience. Basically it says you don't want to speak to a "buzz" customer the same way you talk to a "Helen" customer, typically. This absolutely correct. The AVERAGE retired couple wants a quality product that is easy to use. They don't care about technobabble as long as it's a reliable product and meets their needs. The "buzz" on the other hand is typically a younger male who really like technology. He knows what he wants, and can usually understand more of the younger fast paced talk. That's not to say that a "Helen" can't be a "Buzz." It absolutely happens and they make that clear. Maybe "Helen" is a retired engineer from Boeing. These are things you should learn in the first few minutes in speaking with your customer. If that is something you pick up on, you can go into all the technobabble you want. As someone formally on commission, my paycheck relied on my ability to cater my sale to different types of customers. I didn't talk to every customer in the same manner.

As far as not getting helped because you aren't standing next to an expensive product, that has nothing to do with these customer profiles, and everything to do with a lazy salesperson. I rarely stop to talk, I make constant rounds and always check with EVERY customer MULTIPLE times.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on Blu-ray Prices Higher Than Ever: Man, This is Going to Piss You Off]]> Sony's new BluRay players have already been announced and are cheaper than this years models. They are profiles 1.1 and 2.0 with the ability to do both TrueHD and DTS-MA. The S350 will hit $299 by years end according to Sony. So... why not just wait a month or two?

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on Best Buy Says It Will Cover Part of Your DirecTV Bills]]> It's the same deal they have been running, they just changed it a bit to protect themselves. Before HD Advantage gave you $300 off the price of the TV if you signed up for DirecTV as a new customer. However people were canceling the service to exploit the deal. Now instead of saving $300 instantly, you save $360 over the course of a year. Just started this week.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on LG BH200 Dual Blu-ray/HD DVD Player Reviewed (Verdict: Good Video Quality, But Slightly Too Late)]]> Giz.... once again, that WOULD have been a great headline except one thing. This player has been out for quite a while. It was on the market WELL before CES, at least a good 3-4 months. 3-4 months ago, the format war was still a dead heat. Hell, ultimateavmag.com's review on this was back in December, and they always get everything late. December.. before CES.... before the heath of HD-DVD. So... ya.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on HDTV Swaparoo: Sony KDL-46XBR4]]> @FLskydiver: You guys are comparing Toyota to Lexus here. Despite looking much nicer, the XBR has a 120Hz refresh rate so it handles motion much better, it has a nicer video processor and WAY better black levels. The only Samsung comparible to this is the 4681, though the 4671 comes kinda close. Of course the Geo Metro is cheaper than the Benz, ITS NOT AS GOOD. I sell all the TVs you listed and see them on a daily basis. The 4661 and W3000 are good in their own rights, but no XBR.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on The Tech in a Pioneer's Kuro Plasma in About 50 Words]]> Black Friday deals on this TV? LOL, not a chance. They have the best flat panel on the market hands down. They have no reason to sling a $5k+ TV as a doorbuster.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on $100k Home Theater is Only 720p]]> Way to go Gizmodo, talk about something when you clearly have no clue. A solid 720p projector will run circles around a decent or less 1080p projector. Lets talk smaller, for example. The Pioneer Kuro 720p models look better than the highest end 1080p LCDs and plasmas from the competition. My nice DVD player looks better on S-Video than most of the players that upconvert to HD via HDMI. Why? Because it does it right.

That's who gave them the biggest paycheck that month. It was always funny to me that one month's Consumer Reports has a panasonic as "the best", the next month a Sony is "The best" and the 3rd month the very same panasonic is "the best" once again. Consumer Reports is a big joke. I can't wait to pick up one of these Pioneers.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on Transparent Opus Speaker Cables Bring You Audio Nirvana for $43,000 a Pair]]> I may be one of the few people on this forum to actually hear these cables hooked up. Did I do an A/B comparison to cheaper models? No. I did however listen to these hooked up to some Dynaudio Evidence towers, Krell Master series amps, and their high end CD transport. I won't lie, it sounded pretty darn amazing. For me, the regular joe are they worth $43k? No. Probably not. The pods in the center of the cable (which are about 1 foot long, and 8 inches wide) filter and clean the signal on the way to the speaker. Let me ask this, if you have the money to spend on $250,000/pair Wildon Audio X2 Alexandria's, $80,000 monoblocks, and matching pre-amps and transports.... do you really think you will hook them up with lamp cord from your local Ace Hardware? No. If you have that kind of money to spend on a system, what's $43k to make sure they sound their best? =)

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on $7,250 Speaker Cables Turn You Into a Dancin' Fool]]> Ya, Transparent Opus are like $30,000 for an 8ft pair. These are cheap by comparison.

<![CDATA[havok2022 commented on Pioneer's Not-1080p Project Kuro Plasmas For Sale]]> First to respond to Jeff the answer is no. I think you're a bit confised. This is a plasma.... aka... no backlighting. Plasma phosphors create their own light and need no backlight, this is far better (in my opinion) than LED backlighting as the pixil displaying the image is lighting the color it needs, instead of relying on a seperate source. Also to the 720p critcs I urge you to go look at one of these. Quite simply the 720p elites crush most of the flat panels in their class... 1080p included (aside from the 1080p Pioneer Elite). Their color clarity and black levels more than make up for their lack of resolution, not to mention the enchanced refresh rate and the ISF calibration options standard in the menu.
