looks like they are succeeding in stopping desertification. you can see a completely fabricated farming village, and towards the south of the village you can see container waste. Pretty nutty.
the amount of time it takes the sound to travel from where the dsp starts doing its magic to where the output of the dsp leave the speaker is longer than it takes the dsp to do its magic. The better the dsp the more expensive your headphones are.
Arguably, one of the only reasons humans are here today is because we had the intelligence to hide in caves a few thousand years ago. That is, until we had big enough weapons to squash the things that threatened our existence.
That's probably the most rational approach when moving forward. Until you are sure your weapons can destroy the enemy (or even Mutually Assured Destruction if you run into an intelligent being and not some planet nomming mass) don't go sticking your neck outside of your cave.
thats 244uSv after 2 hours, do the math from there, one day, 2928 uSv of radiation.
Normal yearly background dosage of radiation is ~3.6 mSv = 3600 uSv.
hang out there for a day and you get what you should over a year... so then the article is correct, you get about 360 times the amount of radiation you would get while staying there for an entire year under the same conditions as opposed to being anywhere else for a year.
Severe radiation poisoning occurs at 2000 mSv, so if you were to stay in that town for a year you would get a dosage of 1314 mSv, you'll certainly get cancer.
Just putting it in perspective for you.
Let's hope they stop the leaks and the radiation dissipates (as it should).
Hey! So i know this is pretty far after the original post, but I made a dreamhost account with the code 222 but also threw in the two you mentioned in the same box. It seems to have registered the 222 but I'm not sure if it registered the two you posted. how do I check if it did?
I'm typing this message to you whilst using the force.
I have fallen over on my back in a violent fit of nerd rage, nerd rage of the likes that have yet been seen before.
I don't think I can get up, moreover, i don't think i want to get up... especially in a world such as this, a world that views Serenity as the better movie in a match up against The Empire Strikes Back (as well as Blade Runner).
Just when i needed some one to explain the new Fermilab talk on the possible new particle with regards to the excess signal between 120 and 160 GeV/c^2 :(.
So based on experimental data, they discovered an excess of energy between 120 and 160 GeV/c^2, which if you accept what they present right off the bat, holy crap they discovered that the current model of their system is wrong and there is an excess of force that they were able to show had a significant difference through out their data sets.
As the first person in the crowd asks, and a few others mention, they may have inaccurately calculated their jet energy scales by not correctly taking into account a shift. They seem to have a discontinuity in describing their quark jet vs a gluon jet in their sample which may explain the increase in energy (according to the lady asking it they don't have a grasp on it). The presenter couldn't really answer the question which makes me believe it's a legitimate question that will be followed up on. (although the talker says that they have numerous experiments where their jet energy scale is correct within 3% so she seems confident their jet energy scale is correct).
Another person asking a question which turned into a statement mentioned that they will be applying their analysis of the data and hopefully be able to come to a similar result as the current speaker. If they are correct that there is something "extra" in the data it's still there in the data, so there is no need for further experiments to confirm its existence.
Also, as some one said towards the end, there is currently a new paper out that explains the new model with a new theory. Another commenter mentioned that there will be another paper out shortly (tonight as a joke) that there is a new particle with a resonance decaying to W and a second new particle which is the one you see in 2jet.
"this is a highly exotic kind of new physics if this signal turns out to be real.... this is not garden variety new physics" from another commenter.
sorry for the randomish comment, typing it as i listen
After the first few questions i concluded that the questions had no real correlation to the images displayed. Since the title had the phrase "Dissociative Affect Diagnostic" I assumed that the whole point of the test was to either make you falsify deep answers by reading into the question and image much more than you should or "dissociate you" from the actual images by realizing its poppy cock and click through to the end. I was hoping to get a "hey look, you realized it was bullsh*t and sped through to the end, here's a cupcake, you're not an idiot".
At least that makes the final round decision way easier. Empire Strikes Back, no question about it.
But seriously, some one needs to explain to me why serenity beat out one of the most iconic and important Sci-Fi stories, arguably most visually groundbreaking movie, of all time.
Keep in mind, the fact that Nathan Fillion or Summer glau were involved is not good a good enough answer.
The book had the altered ending for that reason, Kubrick just ended it on the American version of the book because he never actually read the original novel before finishing the movie. Although, even after reading the final chapter, Kubrick didn't like the last chapter anyways for the same reasons.
have to agree with you on that... To me, the book is about how no one can truly be desensitized from violence when faced with the outcome and reality of their own violent actions. What if Ender had known earlier on that he killed that bully before he went to battle school? How hard was it for him to get over the shower fight scene? The problem wasn't that they desensitized him, it was that they couldn't desensitize him. Orson Scott Card (devout Mormon) will always bring in a little touch of his religious hopefulness into any novel, and I kind of like that (disclaimer: I'm agnostic).
IF the movie is portrayed in any other way, to me, it will be a huge insult to Orson Scott Card, much like how Kubrick changed the ending to A Clockwork Orange to make it more appealing to the public.
