and microsoft just proved why baking facebook and other apps into the OS is stupid
they only just added the "like" feature
is it gonna require an entire OS install everytime facebook pushes a new feature to the server? how long will it take microsoft to add these features, yet alone push them out and hope they're installed? what if windows phone runs in the same "lets sell old software on new phones" bullshit android is stuck in?
@Haneyg: i dont doubt that. but the questions that people have been asking for months is "Has Google been outselling the iPhone?" and Google continuously makes that unclear
long term though, apple will probably be 30%, google 40% and the rest a mixture of Palm or Microsoft or Rim
@out0mind: I think the number is most important in terms of developers
if android non-phones cant run apps, their numbers dont really count. An iPod Touch or an iPad will all run the apps coded for iPhones so in terms of developers 230,000 is important
that being said, if its in terms of developers, the most important number is how many devices each platform has activated (new and old)– Only this number tells us how much use devices are getting and what kind of reach a developer has in terms of people actually using and downloading apps in a particular system
@rhoa23: i think i agree. killing the desktop metaphor will finally take computers out of the 90s and push them to a future of natural, seamless, ubiquitous interaction
@OMGWTF_BBQ: the only reason apples makes the most sense is that it is done through phone numbers.
essentially anyone, even my grandma could pick it up and use it without having to create a login or a password and buddies to your buddy list go "online" etc
