Comments from J.T. Comments from J.T. J.T. commented on Tron 2 Trailer Video Makes Pants Wet Worldwide WHOA... I'm speechless. Are you kidding me!? Remember when Disney Interactive made Tron 2.0 the video game? They had done it because they thought it was going to be more profitable than making a second movie. I guess they were wrong! Hell, I loved Tron, loved Tron 2.0, and will absolutely salivate for Tr2n. Bring it on.

J.T. commented on On Esquire's Stupid E-Ink Cover @sgthalka: Not true. Some of us are media geeks, too.

J.T. commented on On Esquire's Stupid E-Ink Cover Wow Blam, that was a pretty bit of lambasting there. I understand your take - it's a bit of a ham-fisted move trying to meld "print with technology" - but then again, the hologram covers people were running in the late 80s and early 90s were damn expensive too. What they did is elevate you to a "whoa, look at them, they've got balls" sort of status. I still read Wired cover to cover and am always impressed with the crazy metallic inks and blatant PMS coloring they always pull off; talk about a a "content first" mentality. And while that's not nearly on the level a friggin' e-ink cover is (the 90-day battery is a killer, I agree), it's a similar concept.

All I'm saying is... they're not as moronic as you may think.

J.T. commented on Hands On Lenovo X200: Tiny, Cheap, Means Business (But Forgot the Trackpad) You trackpad wimps, Giz! The nub is the only way to go. What's easier than not having to lift your hands off the keyboard to navigate your mouse pointer? It's the bee's knees... er, nubs.

J.T. commented on Lightning Review: Palm Treo 800w Smartphone Far too little, far too late. That's all that need be said, really.

J.T. commented on BlackBerry Tips From John Mayer In all this discussion about whether John Mayer is Jonny Gladwell or if his douchery is merited, we seem to have neglected the fact that that looks suspiciously like a Treo in Mayer's hand there. Am I wrong?

J.T. commented on "Dear Cupertino" Apple Site Reduces Bad Rumors Back To Desperate Wishes I'd actually ask them for a downtown area near the intersection of De Anza Boulevard and Stevens Creek, Blam. But that's just me.

J.T. commented on Why Canada Sucks For Gadget Lovers Dan, well done - you've got some great writing chops there. That was a great read. What's it going to take for the Giz to hire you on full-time?

J.T. commented on Differences Between Nikon D3 and D700 (aka Lil' D3) I for one am not giving up my D300 for this beast. Sure, the full-crop is nice, but I've invested in lenses that take advantage of the DX crop now, so it really doesn't make a difference to me any more. The ISO boost is admittedly dead-sexy, but I can already boost to 6400, and it's buttery-smooth. Compared to the graininess of my old D70's ISO 1600? Ridiculous.

I love that Nikon is bringing out the big dogs, though. Makes me all the more comfortable in their stable. Take that, Canon.

J.T. commented on Bill Gates You Have a Retirement E-Card from Gizmodo So long Bill, and thanks for all the software.

J.T. commented on Things No One Gives Microsoft Credit For (But Should) I love it when you guys quote Will Smith in your posts.

Beyond that, though, I'm glad you guys are fading out Mr. Gates with articles like this that put such a wide lens on his tenure. Vista may be a debacle - why on earth are they still doing 32-bit support, for starters? - and Windows 7 likely won't be much better. But we are the Windows Generation, and we'll forever be impacted by its legacy.

J.T. commented on In the Immortal Words of the Conchords, Goodbye Leggy Blonde You will be missed, Addy - I hate to see one of the most unique and erudite members of Blam's crack team of writers leave. At the same time, though, I completely understand the hectic schedule pro blogging and force upon you, and you do deserve a break.

As scarbrtj said above, at least now we can all look fondly back on these days and claim, "I knew her when."

Cheers and best of luck,
J.T.

J.T. commented on Cat Vs. Washing Machine (My Poor Cat Part II) Wow, this has been one of the most entertaining comment threads at Giz in a while. My contribution: I used to dog-sit my uncle's border collie, and even when the vacuum wasn't plugged in, she would bark at its head and then circle it in agitation before biting its suction head viciously.

I had to cram her in another room every time I cleaned house. She would bark from the other side of the door and then scour the place after I had put the vacuum away, to make sure it wasn't still around.

I should also mention that this same dog would bark and jump up on you incessantly whenever she saw you hug or kiss someone in front of her. This made it fairly awkward when bringing any, ah, friends home. As you can imagine.

J.T. commented on NBC to Offer Free, Automatic Downloads through "Olympics On the Go" This sounds like a seriously useful way to pander to potential Olympics-watchers. After all, it means I now don't have to slog through listings or hours of hurdling and sprints to watch my favorite sports' coverage. Not bad!

Would you Giz-ians do us the favor of reviewing this when it comes out during the Olympics?

J.T. commented on Transportation Bill Gives $45 Million To Maglev Project, Sets It Up For Fail "Hella," Elaine? Are you from NorCal? I think you just proved it.

Incidentally, for quite a while now they've also been talking about building a MagLev train from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, D.C. I doubt it's ever going to surface for exactly the reasons you've laid out, but damn, do we need a better mass transit system in this country. Whatever happened to the high-speed rail between San Francisco and Los Angeles? I'd take that sucker all the time!

J.T. commented on Internet Party 2: The MySpace Intervention Wow, that's hilarious. I went to high school with one of the "Those Aren't Muskets" guys. They're finally making The Giz!

J.T. commented on First Spyshots of the Palm Treo 800w @ARP: Too true. This is sad, sad, sad. The 680 will officially be the last Palm device I'll own for a long time, after nearly 10 years of Palm ownership. Apple or RIM, here I come.

J.T. commented on Zune Owner Uses Craigslist for Love Connection Hey, don't dis the Rio, man. That was seriously the best MP3 player I've ever owned. You could create and save playlists on the fly, for Chrissakes, or it could auto-generate playlists for you based on any number of criteria! What on EARTH is preventing Microsoft and Apple from implementing simple features like those?

J.T. commented on Palm Zeppelin and Skywriter Phones Coming in 2008? Christ. I know this is just a rough dev unit, but the basic layout dashes any hopes I had that the next Palm units coming out would be revolutionary.

I've had a Treo/Palm Pilot/Handspring since 1999. But this year may be my last as a Palm devotee, because the innovation simply isn't there any more. We're working on an operating system that's remained largely unchanged since the mid-nineties! If that's not cause for desertion, I don't know what is. Plus those BlackBerry 9000 pics looked mighty enticing... if they truly have upgraded their OS, then it's high time I jump ship.

J.T. commented on Germans Dangerously Race Office Chairs Down a Hill for Sport Are you kidding, Fruch? Have you never seen San Francisco's own Annual Bring Your Own Bigwheel race? It totally trumps anything this can offer. Picture 200 racers on bigwheels, trash cans, trikes, and what-have-you, plus over 1000 spectators. Now that's a sport.

J.T. commented on New Motorola Actually Making Cellphone Software and Hardware People Work Together This was one of the main problems I had with Motorola when I interviewed there for interface design years ago: software and hardware lived in completely different silos, and barely talked to one another! The hardware team was stellar, but the software left a lot to be desired and weren't nearly as innovative.

J.T. commented on So I Crashed A Motorcycle... You deserve a big ol' Jalopnik Reader Salute, my friend. All in the name of duty! Gizmodo writers can't say the same thing about their writing (although heck, maybe Fleshbot writers can...).

We wish you the best -- Godspeed on your recovery!

J.T. commented on Sony HDR-TG1 Handycam Is World's Smallest "Full HD" Camcorder Quick, Giz, review this damn thing for me. I haven't purchased a new video camera in years, and really didn't even consider using one until a friend of mine showed me the quality of video she got out of a newly-purchased HD Sony camera she just got. Our friend's wedding up on my 1080p HDTV looked amazing, and now I'm suddenly in the market... as soon as they slim down to sizes like this!

J.T. commented on Team Fleshbot Wants You: Call For Interns Although I appreciate the fact that you've used an m-dash in your call for well-read interns, you should watch for keeping those commas inside quotation marks. Sorry... yes, I'm that guy.

J.T. commented on Obsessive-Compulsively Documented BMW Sold For $900 I'm not impressed. I did the exact same thing with my 1978 BMW 320i -- down to every single service record and the notebook full of every single gas fill-up -- and I sold it to a friend for a dollar. No kidding.

J.T. commented on Earth Hour Wants All The Lights Off, But We Want Them On Aw, come on guys, that's just a tad irresponsible of you. I'm all for irreverent humor, just like Blam talked about yesterday in his moving note; but this is a little childish.

J.T. commented on Wow: Best Buy and Circuit City Unofficially OK With Haggling Wow, talk about a conversation starter. Well done, Blam.

I myself have experience the "haggling" phenomenon at Best Buy, although I did so by first letting them know I had found a lower price at another brick-and-mortar store; and then letting them know I'd go back to the other place and get them to dip below that unless the salesman gave me an addition $200 off. All told, I took a $2600 HDTV for $2000. Not too bad.

J.T. commented on Al Roker Goes For A Ride In Driverless Car, Still Waiting For Elasticless Pants Roker can be a blithering moron when he wants to be. When he yammers on about how you "don't have to worry [with this car]: you just sit there, you read your paper, you drink your coffee...," I just thought: Oh. Kind of like public transit, huh Al?

Gee. I never thought of that.
