<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on PassPack Enables Offline Password Management with Gears]]> @thecodingeye,

Its not just you. Any logical person would realize that using an online service to store passwords is crazy. Its like writing all of your passwords down and locking it in a box with a padlock on it, then handing it to Joe Blow on the street. Sure its encrypted, but how do you know that there arent any security flaws or sneaky employees working for PassPack?

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Should Voicemail Die?]]> DIE!

I'd rather read an email then listen to a voicemail. 90% of voicemails consist of "Call me back" and thats it. I can see though were voicemails are necessary. A co-worker was on a business trip on some island that only had phone service. I tend to never check my voicemails, even though the voicemail icon on my phone bugs me...lol

Keep-a-Cables are $6.50 with s/h for a 4 pack. Why buy them when you can do it for free? The casino point cards that have been sitting in my desk for years have finally come to good use! :)

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Why You Should Write Snail Mail for Product Complaints]]> Um, why would you buy the same shoes (4) times if they keep wearing out on the same spot? In my world, you dont buy a product again if it fails. To top it off, he wrote several letters and finally got a free pair. Talk about product loyalty. On the other hand, something may be weird about that guys foot that causing the wear on one spot :)

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Locate32 Finds Files Quickly and Reliably]]> @bobbo33:

Thanks bobbo33 for posting the script. I havent tried this, but multiple users couldnt access the locate32 database if it was stored on a network drive? If they could, then only one person needs to scheduled a task in windows to update the database.

]]>
<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Locate32 Finds Files Quickly and Reliably]]> @bobbo33,

Sound interesting. I would be interested in looking at the VB script.

As far as locate32 not indexing network drives, I have not issues doing this. Make sure you choose the drives in the database settings.

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Locate32 Finds Files Quickly and Reliably]]> @JonathansToolBarAndGrill:

JonathansToolBarAndGrill (lol at name), Copernic has some nice features but its a bit of a hog. Depending on what your needs are, Locate32 may suit you better. No hurt in giving it a try :)

]]>
<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Locate32 Finds Files Quickly and Reliably]]> @kdyer:

kyder, what do you mean it runs in the background? When you close Locate32, it should close in the task manager. I have it set to open periodically to update the index database.

When using Agent Ransack, how does it search files without using a database/index? Seems like it would take forever like the std windows search.

]]>
<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Locate32 Finds Files Quickly and Reliably]]> @gamesover:

gamesover, Total Commander is NOT free and as far as I can tell it doesnt index your drives. Ive used it in the past, and its a good file manager for certain functions.

@mrknowitall:

mrknowitall, what exactly is regexp?

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on The Netgear Open Source Router]]> I have a Netgear WGR614 v5. For some reason v5 isnt listed anywhere.

Does anyone know a open source firmware that supports it? Im hoping to find one that logs bandwidth usage on my network.

]]>
<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Locate32 Finds Files Quickly and Reliably]]> Locate32 rocks. Its super lightweight and not a system hog like other search tools. Ive tried AgentRansack, but it doesn't index files (at least the free version doesn't). Google Desktop, Copernic, X1, Windows Search 4 are all overkill for the average search. If you have good names for your files, searching inside them is overkill. ALSO, for those who think having a good directory structure is all you need, you may just need to search for a file one day :)

]]>
<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on What Are Your Best Alternatives to Soda?]]> I'm hooked on Diet Pepsi. I drink about 2-3 cans per day. I stay away from non-diet soft drinks, mainly because most have HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). I went to Canada a couple of months ago, New Brunswick to be exact. I had a couple of non-diet soft drinks there, and I dont think it had HFCS in it. Can anyone from Canada verify this? I know that Mexico Coke has cane syrup in it, which is delicious. Any type of syrup is bad for you though, but HFCS is linked to obesity and many other problems.

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Access Usenet When Your ISP Blocks It]]> @Johnay:

Johnay, how do you figure its more public than P2P? With P2P, I could see anyone's IP who is downloading files. With Usenet the only person that can see your IP when downloading files is your ISP. If you post things, then your IP is logged and everyone could potentially see it.

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Five Best Personal Finance Tools]]> @StrangeTikiGod:

Policies are one thing, doing it is another. Hackers dont follow policies and bad employees dont either. Trusting 1 site with all of your bank accounts info is insane. I never understood the concept of social networking for personal finance. Would someone get together with friends at a coffee shop and go over their personal finances? I dont think so.

I vote "Other". I use GnuCash. Its open source, free, and I run it on my Mac and PC. I previously used Money 2004. I exported my QIF files and imported them into GnuCash. It was surprisingly easy.

if you want free, then dont complain. They have to make money some way!

@elenamurphy:

You can easily share photos with friends without showing them to the world. Just make the pictures private, then create a Guest Past link. You an easily do this with the "Share" feature on Flickr.

<![CDATA[monkeyboy commented on Five Best Photo Sharing Web Sites]]> Dont forget, one of the most important things to think about when using a photo sharing site is "Will they most likely be here in 5 years?"
