In a page of depressing comments, this made me laugh. Thank you.
The only thing I hate more than the Superbowl is people complaining about the Superbowl.
I did German in school and tried to keep it on in college but found the learning curve jumped away from me and I switched subjects early on. However, I still listen to as much German music and movies as I can, and it does help a lot.

Good tip for those in college- try to see if your university has an International Society or something similar- The one near me is mainly for people with different languages who want to hang out together and practice speaking in a non-classroom environment. It's always good times.

This brings me to a question I've been meaning to ask someonem but it sounds a bit weird- does anyone else find themselves speaking other languages better while (slightly) inebriated? People always tell me my conversations get much more natural after a few beers, I think it makes me stop "translating" and forces me to just "talk".

Finally someone else feels my pain. Those two plastic things between R1/R2 and L1/L2 are manufactured by Satan himself to punish anyone who dares to defy Sony and opens a controller.
What an over-the-top response, Relax. I don't have an extreme view, and I'm not 'representing' anything. I know the difference between kinds of chocolate too, thanks. My point is if even if a dog gets into anything toxic and eats a non-lethal amount, it could still be enough to make them sick. Even an upset stomach is worth a call to a vet if there's a way you could make it better. If it turns out there's probably nothing wrong or nothing you need to do, great.

Yes, bacteria and gasoline and marshmallows and hugs can all be dangerous in unchecked amounts. Neither here nor there.

If a small amount of dark chocolate is lethal, then why isn't a small amount of any other chocolate still a big deal? If a human ate only a small dose of something lethal, it'd still warrant attention.
While I agree with you that stuff like this should be as open and free as possible, I don't really see what Apple is doing here that any different from any other dead-tree publisher.

That said, I do think the best thing to come out of this is it'll give Amazon, Google, B&N and whoever else the push to provide better competing digital textbook services. Apple doesn't always provide the best services, but they are certainly the best at leading markets into new territories.

Damnit, I was going to say this exact same thing.

As with pretty much everything Apple announces, people all over the internet will come up with uncountable reasons why their new product or service is doomed to fail, and it'll go ahead and be a massive success anyway.

You are the saddest individual alive.
This is the first time on Lifehacker I've ever legitimately felt I've been being trolled. Not that I have any idea whether this works or not, just in my mind it fits in the category of "check the temperature of your deep fryer by tossing in some ice cubes!"
I just set up and unlocked 2 identical iphone 3G's this week, one with this and another jailbroken with Pwnagetool. Both have their pros and cons.

Whited00r was a much quicker and simpler process, required nothing further to unlock so any sim could be used, and includes some useful apps such as a video recorder, a pseudo-newstand and a pseudo- iCloud (seems to be mainly a Dropbox client, haven't looked at it much). It all runs very smoothly.

Downside is, it's not iOS5- it's a modified version of 3.1.3 . This means there are an awful lot of apps that simply won't install- they require iOS 4 or greater (Netflix, Eye-Fi and Words with Friends being the ones I remember not working off the top of my head). Also, the App Store must be accessed through Safari, which I don't particularly trust. Some features, such as Folders, seem to be missing.

The other 3G with the normal jailbroken 4.2.1 runs a little slower, and crashes on occasion. However, all of the apps install. You do have to go through the extra trouble of Ultrasn0w to unlock it, but that's a once-off thing. It also seems to take a hit on battery life, but I haven't got any real proof to back that up.

All in all, depending on which apps you need and which you can do without, whited00r is a perfectly good choice. I'm going to use my Jailbroken 3G as my main phone and the Whited00r one as my backup/music and video device but that could change if the jailbroken 3G proves to be too slow for day to day use.

What's an ultrabook? A silly buzzword for the logical direction laptops are and have always been progressing in- Thinner and lighter.
Prevention is better than a cure- stretch a dryer sheet over the intake air vents and dust won't get in to begin with.
Very cool, that's definitely worthy of #tips.
Unless you've got a hand injury, arthritis, or any one of a dozen ailments that might make opening a pill bottle hard.
I used to do this... it didn't end well. Pro tip, no matter how good the velcro is, your hard drive will only last 'til the adhesive between the velcro and the desk peels off. Next time I'd go for non-adhesive velcro and glue it on.

I have however had good luck by attaching a hard drive to the back of my laptop's monitor- use a case over the laptop if you don't want it to always look like ass.

There's ways to filter out all the porn ones. Also ways to filter out anything BUT the porn ones, so win-win.

Never heard of airfoil, but it seems to cost 25 dollars while this is free... so I can think of 25 reasons why someone might choose this if it suited their needs.

I used to use Bowtie to control my iPhone in a stereo the other side of the roomm this seems even better.

It's got like 20 fans, Not sure I'd call that 'natural' cooling.... slightly nicer version here also: [hackaday.com]
