<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Nintendo President Doesn't Think Friend Codes Are Perfect (Who Agrees?)]]> Like many other intelligent Nintendo owners, I don't buy Nintendo's excuses for the friend code system.

What would change as far as online safety is concerned if everyone had a nickname, but you still had to add each of your friends as well as have them add you?

On top of that, what does forcing every game to use a different code have anything to do with online safety?

As Shifty_Pete said, 1 very simple parental control that asks for the parent's password before your children can add friends, let games use your Wii friends list and you're set...

Instead, we get a system that's convoluted to a point where there are VERY few people that even use the service.

<![CDATA[phor11 commented on CNBC's Jane Wells - Sony Is Winning, My Son Says So]]> @LobselVith: he's 16... far from being a CHILD.

If he prefers the ps3, there is absolutely nothing wrong or out of the ordinary about that.

It's the fact that he willingly traded all his 360 gear/games for far under market value on a whim for 1 game that he wanted to play on the ps3.

And his cause isn't at ALL helped by the fact that his mother decided to name her piece "The Ultimate Proof Sony Is Winning".

]]>
<![CDATA[phor11 commented on CNBC's Jane Wells - Sony Is Winning, My Son Says So]]> So he:
1) got completely ripped off by trading in his 360 and games at gamestop
2) "He always tells me the latest trend three months before I read about it in the media." yet just now learned about mgs4 and the "awesomeness of blu-ray"?
3) fell for the old "Sony now has a special coating on Blu-ray game discs which makes them virtually scratch-proof" trick...

Sounds to me like that article is actually trying to prove that her kid is an idiot...

<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Going For the Mass Market: Good News or Bad?]]> It's apparent to me that there is a HUGE opportunity for game developers to make money on the Wii by catering to the core gamers.

Nintendo continues to say that they haven't abandoned the core audience, but actions speak louder than words.

I know there are a LOT of Wii owners that are VERY upset with the way Nintendo is taking their system. Many to the point of selling their system all-together.
(just look at the spike in ebay Wii's)

So if third party devs step up and offer some good core games on the Wii, they definitely have potential to steal a lot of Nintendo's software revenue moving forward.

<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Wal-Mart Getting Its Own Geek Squad, Courtesy of Dell]]> @SneakerFiend: afaik, you won't have to BUY your tech at Wal-Mart in order to use the Dell Support Stations.
Wal-Mart will just be providing the commercial footprint for Dell so that they don't have to build their own stores.

]]>
<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Wal-Mart Getting Its Own Geek Squad, Courtesy of Dell]]> @dr_time: I know, it's like they believe the techs will automatically be idiots just because the station is inside of a Wal-Mart.

I think it's actually a very good idea as long as they actually hire/train capable techs.

<--- even coming from a computer technician, I believe tech support is getting to be far too expensive. Hopefully Wal-Mart's part of the deal can help the pricing situation as well as providing the widespread footprint to bring the service to as many people as possible.

<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Ladies And Gentlemen, We Have Booth Babes]]> @michaelleung: She was too young to get into E3...

<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Ubisoft E3 08 Press Conference Liveblog]]> Hopefully they'll have some games for core gamers on the Wii since Nintendo apparently doesn't care anymore...

]]>
<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Nintendo E3 08 Press Conference Liveblog]]> @NeoStarr: People complained about their lack of support for the "core" Wii gamer, not the DS gamer... GTA for DS did NOTHING to appease the fears that core Wii owners have had for the past 6 months.

If they really cared about the core gamer (like they love to say they do), then they would have made more than 1 passing reference at what the Zelda/Mario teams are working on...

Instead, 99.9% of their presser covered new gimmick casual games...

They may have some things still in the pipeline for their core audience, but it just doesn't seem like they care about them as much as their casual innovations.

The fact is, if they continue with their current attitude toward core gamers, more and more core gamers are going to jump ship to other consoles or the PC. And I don't think they understand how big of an impact that will have on the longevity of the system.

Their current attitude will end up turning the Wii into nothing more than a gimmick. (even though it had sooo much more potential)

I can only pray they pull their heads out before it's too late.

]]>
<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Nintendo E3 08 Press Conference Liveblog]]> @JoRo1986: GTA for the DS?

]]>
<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Nintendo E3 08 Press Conference Liveblog]]> I've played Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy... and now according to Nintendo's apparent stance, I guess I should go ahead and sell the Wii and wait for their next console before I can expect any more "hardcore" games.

If anyone still had fears that Nintendo's stance on hardcore vs casual would leave hardcore gamers behind, this presser pretty much proved that every fear was legitimate.

<![CDATA[phor11 commented on Rock Band Music Creation To Be "Radically Different" Says CEO]]> Guitar Hero would be dead already if Harmonix would have correctly ported RB to the Wii in ANY sort of timely manner.

But since they didn't, you have millions of people who prefer GH simply because they own a Wii and not a 360 or ps3.

I don't think that anyone can argue that GH3 for Wii was and will remain wildly more successful than RB Wii will be. The lack of online bundled with delay after delay have killed RB for the Wii audience.

And that just happens to leave the door wide open for the 6 intro screen, boss battling crap-fest that is now the Guitar Hero Franchise.

I REALLY hope that Activision will learn from their mistakes with GH3 and make GH:WT a MUCH better game, but I'm not holding my breath.
