steven5737 commented on Things You Don't Know About Modern Elevators Another interesting fact I heard, elevators are required to be able to hold seven times that "maximum weight" number that is posted inside the elevator.

steven5737 commented on LCD vs. DLP: Projectors Face Off For Your Hard Earned Cash @timaeus: Actually the JVC DLA-RS2U I mentioned earlier is only $8k

steven5737 commented on LCD vs. DLP: Projectors Face Off For Your Hard Earned Cash A 3-chip LCD is great for it's price and for easy-on-the-eyes natural picture due to it's 3 chips, but has inherently less-than-fabulous blacks and lowest pixel density. A single-chip DLP is good for eye popping color and deep blacks, but it's single chip with a color wheel producing colors sequentially will give the rainbow effect. The best of both worlds is either a 3-chip LCoS (SXRD in Sony terms or DILA in JVC's), or a 3-chip DLP. The best projector for the money out there is hands down the JVC DLA-RS2U, seen it first hand. 3-chip LCoS, 30,000:1 NATIVE contrast ratio (highest on the market, done without an IRIS).

steven5737 commented on Kevin Rose Sets Up Lame Home Theater System (Verdict: BURIED!) Not sure why a few people are bad-mouthing projectors. Your ideas of projectors were probably from the early days of low-res, low contrast, weak bulb, 4:3 projectors watching something on a white wall over a composite video cable from a VCR. A lot has changed, every one of those variables: now it's high resolution (2mil pixels), high contrast, powerful bulb, 16x9 ratio, superb uniform screens, pure digital RGB signals (HDMI/DVI), from high-res sources. Have you experienced digital cinema at your local movie theater? Yep, it's a projector, and it's a DLP, and that experience is now superior to film projection. What he has is a 1080p LCD projector from Panasonic, a leader in video processing and production, I have one of their commercial plasma monitors, which looks better than anything with a glossy finish down at the Big Box stores. True he's missing a Blu-Ray, but 1080i from cable with the lights off will still look amazing, and cheaper than a flat panel of the same size of course.

steven5737 commented on Digital Converter Boxes Are for Cheap Fogies, Not Sony Customers I am a home theater installer and huge technical guru myself, my system consists of Dynaudio, Krell, Rega, professional Panasonic plasma, etc.. but I HATE television and what's on it, and therefore do not have cable or sat, but use rabbit ears to catch an occasional Conan or Letterman show in HD. Music and movies make up 98% of what I watch. I use an old Samsung HD sat box with DVI out as my HD tuner. Will be nice to see what other options people like Sony comes out with.
