<![CDATA[Comments from Tensor]]> <![CDATA[Comments from Tensor]]> <![CDATA[Tensor commented on First Person R/C Plane, Almost as Good as Actually Flying]]> I saw one of these in action the other day. They DO use a spotter, its hard to get your bearings without it. They used it with a head tracking system which could be overriden using a switch on the transmitter, and then controlled by the transmitter.
They also use a splitter and mount a video camera to record the feed and a portable dvd screen for other ppl to watch (like me)... I tried the HMD dysplay on while the pilot was visually landing it (apparently its easier and safer that way) my experience was not that nice, if you are not piloting you get dizzy fast, kinda like watching someone else play quake or UT.

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Transparent Display Concept Proves There's a Use for Anything]]> @nikescar: hmm nope, i believe the Merc's and other's approach is a HUD more like a teleprompter than this. The windshield is too easily broken and nicked and this would make it frightfully expensive to replace.

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Transparent Display Concept Proves There's a Use for Anything]]> @Glamdering: you DO know that she'll see you thru the screen that you are NOT reading Giz right ? i mean its transparent ...

If this were real, which is obviously not in this video ... but probably technically feasible ... Everybody will be able to read your emails and the pages you visit when you go to someplace like Starbucks, so there is nothing cool about this effect

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Apple Virtual Operator Patent Opens Way to Free Carrier Selection]]> @jeepingeek: In Argentina the "ll" is pronounced with a sound similar to the english "sh" (but shorter and softer) because of the huge influence of portugese inigration in the area. Loads of argentinisms come from either italian (mainly) and portuguese (ie: "Guarda!" that common arg voice for a warning comes straight from the italian, meaning literally "Look" and used as the english "Look Out", afaik is the only spanish speaking country that uses it)

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Pwnage iPhone Unlocking and Hacking Tool Now Available, Works Great]]> @keats: don't worry no one was born knowing it all ... we all had to start somewhere.

If what you want is to "jailbreak" (ie run 3rd party apps) this tool is not for you, you are better off with this one [download.ziphone.org] just plug your phone shut down itunes and select jailbreak. Then follow the instructions. Its pretty much a one click deal.

pwnage does this too but its like using a cannon to kill a fly.

Who cares if it was a Nazi orgy or not ... does that make him a Nazi? no, he DRESSED as one. Or at least the girls did.

This is nothing as the Gov of NY case, he is not an appointed official using official funds to buy his vices ... he's filthy rich, let him do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants it done with his money.

I fully agree with georgejetson, the real wrongdoer is the asswipe who filmed this and sold it to the tabloids.

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on My Touch Keys Brings Tactile Feedback to iPhone]]> @alinear: try that HapticKB app ... i hope apple hires these guys or at least buys their app

And texting while driving on an iphone sounds like something out of a SF movie ! I miss 1 in 5 keys while sitting down at my desk... just thinkg of doing it driving, holding the steering wheel with my knee makes me laugh.

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on My Touch Keys Brings Tactile Feedback to iPhone]]> @darex: you COULD have the best of both worlds ...

Have a full screen background image art divided in 4 by its diagonals with next / prev top and bottom (or vol up/down) and rew/ff left and right ... making the buttons 100% transparent when not in use (BUT STILL USABLE) and having them @ say alpha 50% when in use for a couple of seconds ... not too hard to do at all.

The best keyboard app for the iphone i've seen is HapticKB by two students (welsh was it?) that makes the iPhone vibrate on key press/change and vibrate differently on release. Just a tech demo app but VERY cool.

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Who Will Get Hacked First: Vista, OSX or Linux? Place Your Bets Here]]> Sorry for the 3 comments in a row, but no edit and keep thinking new things ...

If i had to place a bet, it's be that he did it with an image with some "payload" in it that got interpreted by Safari, similar to the old jalibreakme (?) site for the iphone.

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Who Will Get Hacked First: Vista, OSX or Linux? Place Your Bets Here]]> @nutbastard: As this was the second day, it gave this basic level of user interaction, users downloaded email and opened websites, but did not download anything, nor clicked "yes" on any prompts. Just downloaded and read email, and visited a website with no obvious threats to it. Just like a real security-conscious user would.

So the exploit is really cool actually, just visiting a website made your macbook pwned. I wonder if this was run behind a corporate firewall too ? i think it would probably work as nothing was downloaded to the mac.

And to those thinking he hacked the MacBook air for "value" you are waaaay off. He hacked the one he knew better in the fastest way he knew how, the bragging rights of this are worth 10 MacBook Air put together.

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Who Will Get Hacked First: Vista, OSX or Linux? Place Your Bets Here]]> @nutbastard: Its not that you are off ... you are thinking about "most people" ... in IT security physical security comes 1st and its a given. The rule of thumb is no physical security, no security period. If you think about it its quite obvious, and why NOCs are such a PITA to get into.

The speed of the hack makes it almost plain that he knew about the existence of this bug before hand. a derivative of the original iPhone safari exploit ?

Contrary to popular belief, M$ did its homework securing Vista, there obviously are still some exploits for it but most require some interaction by an unaware user, like downloading a malicious DRMd WMV ...

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Home-Made Drug Running Submarines Used To Counter Engine-Sniping Helicopter Coast Guard]]> With the current street prices of most of these drugs they'll soon start buying F117/B2 stealth bombers to fly them in and not worry about radars or anything else for that matter.

@nutbastard: Not to nitpick your math, but 12 tons = 12.000.000 grams :D

@D.LYTE: Just as governments dont rule in what is not educational for you (As an adult) and not ban, for instance, stupid reality shows. They should not rule in what is not healthy for you. You should be able to buy FDA approved Cocaine, MDMA, Heroin, LSD, etc. With recommended dosage, and over dosage cautions etc. There are a lot of deaths and o.ds every year for bad cuts/batches.

I also agree that "they" ban these chemicals because of the detrimental effect on a "productive" society, because a LOT more people die every year from lung/throat cancer than drugs and cigarettes are not banned, you can't smoke them almost anywhere, but the government still collects taxes on their sales instead of just baning them. Same goes for alcohol. Hell, even cholesterol kills more ppl than drugs and they don't ban McDs do they ?

It has to be temporary as its one, if not the, most known structures in the world. To alter it permanently would be almost sacrilegious.

And as twoeightnine said, just how do you think the rest of the tower is held up? yup 120yr old bolts (ok there were obviously maintenance replacements, but you get the idea).

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on If You are Going to Call Hookers, Go Pre-Paid: How to Avoid Eliot Spitzer's Fate]]> SMS is the most interceptable form of communication, almost as easy as unencrypted (99%) email. Disposable cells are good if you really dispose of them.

Nextel is pretty hard (not impossible) to mess with, as are satellite comms (á la iridium)(also NOT impossible) tho obviously both parties need to be using the service ie: nextelnextel SatSat.

There are several "anon" voip (skype) services you can use, provided you connect to them thru one of the open or payed vpn services (relakks). These could be used by only 1 party, but obviously no CC can be used to purchase the voip->landline minutes.

<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Xbox Blu-ray Drive Rumors Finally Fatally Smashed]]> @kodo: Yes they are in the gaming business, but they learned their lesson. XBMC pushed Xbox sales up. Lots of ppl (like me) still use the xbox for divx/xvid playback. People WANT movies on their tv, and they want a all-in-one device.

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Xbox Blu-ray Drive Rumors Finally Fatally Smashed]]> @jzulli: dude, go search TPB for HDDVD or BLURAY or 1080p and check out the filesizes ... and download anyone of them (which you own so as not to break the law, which this site does not condone) and check out the quality vs the real thing.

Compression is not a bad thing. Bluray is compressed, so is HDDVD, so are DVDs. It would be impossible otherwise. Do the math for 720p:
1280*720*3(24bits color)*24(fps)* 60(s)*60(min)= 238,878,720,000 bytes/hour (239gb/h) for 720p uncompressed video alone.

]]>
<![CDATA[Tensor commented on Xbox Blu-ray Drive Rumors Finally Fatally Smashed]]> @Noobs-R-Us: 25-50 gb ?? more like 4gb (720p) - 8gb (1080p) ... maybe even less.

Size is meaningless, this is not a puny desktop player you are talking about, but full-blown computers. The important things are frame-size, bitrare, audio bitrate, audio channels. Compression is the keyword.

The problem is HD space and DRM, I buy a movie i want to keep to watch when i want, how i want, how many times i want, sadly with most of the (legal) downloaded content this is not so.
