According to a new New York Times report, Michael G. Flynn, the son of Donald Trump’s national security advisor, has been booted from the President-elect’s transition team for tweeting about Pizzagate, the idiotic online conspiracy theory that led a gunman to “self-investigate” a D.C. pizzeria this weekend.

Flynn and his father, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, share a passion for tweeting out bogus news stories, but the younger Flynn evidently crossed a line by pushing the baseless story of a satanic child sex ring tied to Hillary Clinton. Even after it led to an instance of real-world violence on Sunday, Flynn continued to defend the Pizzagate theory police have dismissed as fake.

“Until #Pizzagate proven to be false, it’ll remain a story,” wrote Flynn about the fundamentally unfalsifiable theory. “The left seems to forget #PodestaEmails and the many ‘coincidences’ tied to it.”

Despite having a transition team email address, Vice President-elect Mike Pence denied Flynn had ever been involved in the process on Tuesday. A Trump spokesperson later confirmed that Flynn was on the team but left. Citing two unnamed Trump staffers, the Times reports that tweets were the cause of his dismissal.

Of course, Flynn is hardly alone in believing random shit he saw online. America’s next President himself once admitted, “All I know is what’s on the internet.”
