Today, Acer President Gianfranco Lanci made their plans clear by announcing that they were, in fact, releasing a WM6 smarphone by the end of this year or possibly early next year.

They also announced that E-10 would ditch their PDA business and focus exclusively on smartphones, with the new Acer release headed for sale through wireless carriers (in opposition to E-10's direct to retail roots). Whether Acer can muscle its way into the crowded cellphone market remains to be seen—but it is definitely a logical move for a major PC maker at this point. [CNET]

<![CDATA[ Glowfiish X800: There's a 'Two-Eyes' Joke in there Somewhere ]]>

But it's up to you to make it, not me - the reason being that E-TEN's latest Windows Mobile 6 smartphone has your usual two cameras. One is an auto-focus two megapixel version at the back for hi-quality snaps and vids, and a VGA camera on the front for video calling. The important thing, however, is that it has 3.5G connectivity with HSDPA/WCDMA and Wi-Fi, integrated Mobile Office suite and a 640 x 480 pixel screen. Full list of specs (insert four-eyes joke here, if you want) after the jump.

E-TEN Glofiish X800 Premieres at CeBIT 2007 [MobileWhack]

Mobile Office suite

It's not much of a looker though.

<![CDATA[ Eten Glofiish M700 Smartphone: Purty and Phat ]]> Take a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and add GPS and WiFi, and you have the way-cool Eten glofiish M700 smartphone, the next high-end quad-band GSM/EDGE trinket from the Taiwanese phonemeisters. Satisfy that entertainment jones with its FM radio and take pictures of it all with a 2-megapixel camera, and then store all that on a microSD flash drive.

Although it inherits the GPS and WiFi from its X500 predecessor, it's the first from Eten to have that snazzy sliding QWERTY keyboard. What more could you ask for? Less weight, for one thing, and it's fat, too. This paperweight tips the scales at 5.8 ounces, and although it's only about as long as a 100mm cigarette, its 3/4" thickness could use a bit of Slimfast. Neat-looking phone, though. Maybe we'll see one around here sometime.
