Don't expect a one-click solution like AnySIM or IPSF: it requires some hackertastic command line voodoo-juju, so it's not apt for mere mortals. Also, be warned that it hasn't been tested yet for secondary effects and may require a rabies shot before trying. At least, judging from the venom against the iPhone Dev and Elite teams:

geohot's 1.1.2 software unlock yes, this is what you have all been waiting for now fixed to support 1.1.3

1. Download these:
gunlock and the secpack from http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ or the blog :)
the 4.02.13 fls from http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/baseband/

2. Downgrade your phone to 1.0.2. See all the great tutorials online to do this.
Your baseband won't be downgraded, this is normal.
This will probably work on other versions too, but 1.0.2 doesn't lose wifi on bb access.

3. Kill CommCenter and run "gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls"

4. Reload CommCenter. For some reason my phone was in brick mode. Use the elite team bricktool to get out.

5. Enjoy your 1.1.2 OTB unlocked iPhone

Now, who'd have thought it'd be this easy : )

This release is no thanks to elite/dev
I wish they would share like the old days.
I don't believe everyone in the team is like this, but come on guys.

Oh, the drama. Next in Venezuelan Telenovela TV, Hackers Passion! ¡Rosita, tú mataste a tu hermana! ¡No, lo hizo Pablo! ¡Sí! ¡No! ¡Amparo! [iPhonetag]

<![CDATA[Third iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Upgrades Directly via Installer]]> If you've got an already jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhone, you can now upgrade directly via Installer.app—no connecting to Mac or PC required. The only caveat is that the process takes 45 minutes as it downloads the entire upgrade via Wi-Fi, so hook your phone up to an AC adapter before you start. Again, find it in installer.app on your jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone. [Crunchgear ]

<![CDATA[iPhone 1.1.3 Firmware Jailbroken (Wee!) but Not Available (Boo!)]]> Well, that was quick. It appears firmware 1.1.3 has already been Jailbroken. The solution is not available to the mainstream yet, as both teams are holding back until the iPhone SDK launches in April. Nevertheless, there is video proof; jump to catch some shaky evidence of installer.app playing nice with 1.1.3.

<![CDATA[Confirmed: Bricked iPhones Rise From the Grave With Firmware 1.1.3]]> For all those unlocked iPhones out there that were bricked after attempting firmware upgrades, we have some great news. It appears that Apple's new 1.1.3 iPhone firmware rewrites either most or all of the phone's firmware, allowing for bricked iPhones to be brought back to life. If this sounds too good to be true, watch the video above. We tested it on our own dead iPhone that was originally unlocked with AnySIM and later bricked by an attempted upgrade. This phone had just been gathering dust in one of Brian Lam's many gadget drawers, so we were surprised when we finally had success with bringing it back to life. Getting the iPhone working again wasn't as easy as we expected, and at times it didn't seem like the firmware upgrade had worked, so here's what happened.

To upgrade, we put the phone in recovery mode, then connected to iTunes and restored/ upgraded. After the phone had finished upgrading, it would not work with our already valid ATT sim, so we had to activate the phone using iTunes. This is where we ran into some trouble, because after activating the iPhone under our existing account, the phone still did not show any signal and would not activate to our account. We restarted the phone and just like magic, were taken directly to the home screen. The phone now had signal and was clearly activated to our account. We made a few test calls, and tested the data connection, both with complete success.

For all of you out there that will state the video could be fake because it has been edited, let us direct your attention to the plastic-film that is still on the glass of the iPhone. In every shot you will see that the phone still has it's plastic-film on, confirming we are using the same phone before and after.

<![CDATA[iPhone 1.1.3's Lesser-Known Features]]> You already know the main features of iPhone 1.1.3 from our hands-on and from the keynote, but there are a few interesting tweaks that got lost in all the other Apple coverage.

• The SMS storage has been upped from 1,000 to 75,000, which means you probably won't need to ever clear a conversation unless you really enjoy texting.
• The keyboard now allows two-finger typing, so holding shift + a key lets you type caps.
• Gmail on the phone automatically defaults to IMAP, which means deleting messages on your phone affects stuff server-side.
Various bugs hit on Bluetooth and email checks, but workarounds have been found.

<![CDATA[Hands-on With iPhone Firmware 1.1.3]]>
We've got the walk-through video above, but here's what we think of iPhone Firmware 1.1.3. The Google Maps location finding is excellent, probably because Apple made sure they programmed in Moscone's data points correctly into their location services. It takes a while to zero in onto your location because it's not GPS, which means it's not really that great for turn-by-turn directions where you need to know whether or not to make a right at the next light.

Multi-recipient SMS is exactly what it sounds like. Pick more than one recipient, send a message, and it gets delivered to everyone. What's nice is that this set of people get saved as a "conversation" so you can send more messages to them without having to type in their names again.

Icon reorganization: same as what we've seen before. Hold down an icon, everything starts shaking, then you can drag stuff around to a new location. Drag an icon to the edge of the screen to get to the next or previous page. Swipe left and right to switch pages.

Webclips also works as advertised, letting you to bookmark a page onto your home screen. There's nothing special about this other than the fact that you can remember a specific part of the page and go to it every time.

<![CDATA[iPhone 1.1.3 Firmware Update is Official]]> The iPhone got its expected firmware upgrade, delivering version 1.1.3 that we've seen and debated about before. It delivers new features like the ability to send SMS messages to multiple recipients at once, faux-GPS on Google Maps via triangulation, Google Maps showing the hybrid map view, drag and drop icons on the home screen and bookmarks on the home screen (i.e. Webclips). There are also some new features, such as videos with chapters, the ability to display lyrics on music. Check out some screenshots below and hit the jump for the official press release.

Apple Enhances Revolutionary iPhone With Software Update

MACWORLD SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Apple(R) today announced a free software update for its revolutionary iPhone(TM) that allows users to automatically find their location using the redesigned Maps application*; text message multiple people in one message; create Web Clips for their favorite websites; customize their home screen; and watch movies rented from the new iTunes(R) Movie Rentals right on their iPhone. With its revolutionary multi-touch user interface and pioneering software, users can
easily add significant new features to their iPhone through software updates whenever an update becomes available. New iPhone products shipping from the factory will include the software update and existing iPhone customers will automatically get the update for free when they sync their iPhone with iTunes (http://www.itunes.com).

"iPhone doesn't stand still — we're making it better and better all the time," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We've delighted millions of users with this revolutionary and magical product and it's great to share these improvements with them."

Maps, one of the most popular and helpful applications on iPhone, has a new interface that is simpler and easier to use and adds incredible new features such as the ability to find your location automatically. With just the tap of a button, iPhone can now triangulate your position using nearby Wi-Fi base stations or cellular towers. You can use this as a starting or ending point for directions or to find local points of interest. The new hybrid map view combines map view and satellite view so you can see major street names overlaid on satellite imagery.

Users can now create Web Clips — icons on the home screen that take you directly to your favorite websites, including to the exact spot you have zoomed into. Web Clips are a great way to easily track websites that you frequently check such as news, blogs, sports sites and movie listings. In addition, users can now customize their home screen by repositioning any of the icons, and even create up to nine different home screens that they can easily flick between.

iPhone's new software update also adds the ability to send the same SMS text message to multiple people, and iPhone saves a history of your text messages, so with one tap you can send a new message to the same group.

With Apple's new iTunes Movie Rentals, movie fans can rent movies on their computer, easily and quickly transfer them to their iPhone, and watch them anywhere on iPhone's gorgeous 3.5 inch screen. Users can also now navigate forward or backward through their movies by chapters, select alternate language tracks and view subtitles, if available.

Pricing & Availability
The iPhone software update 1.1.3 is available immediately for free via iTunes 7.5 or later for all existing iPhone customers in the US, UK, Germany and France. New iPhone products shipping from the factory will include the software update and existing iPhone customers will automatically get the update for free when they sync their iPhone with iTunes (http://www.itunes.com). iTunes Movie Rentals are available in the US only.

Further information for iPhone can be found at http://www.apple.com/iphone.

*Availability and precision of Maps positioning features will vary depending on actual location.

<![CDATA[Full Video Demo of Apple iPhone Firmware 1.1.3 Features]]> If anyone had any doubts left about the 100% veracity of the Apple Firmware 1.1.3, here is full video demonstration of most of the new features, from GPS-like cell-tower triangulation positioning to multiple-recipient SMS, Google Maps hybrid map view, application moving and saving web bookmarks as Springboard icons:

As you can see in the video (which is having server problems right now, according to Andru at Gearlive) there are still some hiccups in this version of the firmware. You can see it crashes while trying to move an application icon from one page to the other (something that didn't happen in Nate's video demonstration, so it appears to be random.) When you hold an icon on the same place for a moment, the icons start to wiggle showing that you can move them around, even inside the dock. Click the home button and the changes will be set, with the icons wiggling stopping at once.

Picture%203.png

The whole firmware seems solid from top to bottom in terms of features. The updated Google Maps looks amazingly good: the new Core Animation-like effects, with the page curling to reveal the new view options (like hybrid map view or the pin dropping), not only looks absolutely fantastic but make the interface much clearer and better than before.

Picture%208.png

Picture%2012.png

The ability to drop pins looks quite polished too, as well as the GPS localization with triangulation. Although triangulation doesn't give your exact location, it shows the area in which you are located.

Picture%2011.png

Picture%2010.png

Likewise, all the other new details seem quite polished. The long-awaited multiple-address SMS is finally here and works as expected.

Picture%205.png

And the ability to add HTML bookmarks as Springboard icons will be a definitive time saver, as well as a great way to access Web-based applications.

<![CDATA[iPhone 1.1.3 Update Coming by Saturday with Disk Mode, Voice Recording?]]> iphone_home9.gifCNET France is pointing to "various rumors" that the iPhone will be getting a 1.1.3 update by the end of this week. And the two updates will both be welcome: voice recording, which is pretty self explanatory, and disk mode storage capabilities.

Similarly to an iPod, the iPhone will prohibit the drag and drop sharing of iTunes media, but it will support your other data transfers a la flash drive. It sounds like a solid update, even if there's nothing Earth-shattering in the mix. (Oh, and of course those who've hacked their iPhones can expect the standard repercussions...blah blah...yada yada yada.) [cnet via electronista]
