@Bos'un's Mate: well, this tech doesnt have polarization at its core. the glasses are actually lcd screens. and they close one eye *turn on lcd* and open the other eye *turn off lcd to make it see through* in rythm with the television. so when the tv shows the right side pic, you only see it through your right eye. Mitsubishi has this tech on all their DLP tvs as well. its a pretty cool tech. the glasses communicate wirelessly with the television to make sure everything is in sync. I think NVidia has a similar tech for their 3D displays and graphics cards.
@switchblade saints: Look at it another way - because one of my eyes is bad, my brain collects 3D data many other ways, including guessing distances from proportions and relative object sizes.
In a way, we've always had 3D movies and TV - no special hardware required, the brain does it all.
Don't forget Video Games! The only problem with video games is the double framerate, which is needed for smooth viewing and requires more GPU power. Stereoscopy really adds to the immersion when gaming.
3D is not lame, and while it may not be as popular as it's proponents would like, it won't fail. It's been alive and slowly growing for decades!

like minidisc, this is a new tech that offers only incremental advantages, and is attempting to usurp something else very similar (and popular) that has not yet run its course.
needing all new everything... sucks. not that i think anyone needs to be told, but uh, wait until you incidentally upgrade to start using these things. I only say so because somewhere, someone will buy all new stuff just to use this cable.
Why the hell don't they just use network cabling if they want to push that much data? Both the hardware and cabling is cheap and they could just use Linksec for their security.
And thats another reason why I havent jumped on the Blu-Ray and HDMI wagon. Still using VGA cables for monitors (use mainly laptops now) and RCA cables for everything else.
Got 3 laptops with HDMI, 2 DVR's with it, and a 92 inch projector with it. But no cords. Still not sure what versions... I bet the projector is something like 1.1, dvr's 1.0, and laptops 1.2 and 1 1.3 or something.
@KTK1990: yikes. Not sure how things are in projector land, but there's a BIG difference when I hook my 42" LCD up to my computer via VGA rather than the usual DVI / HDMI. Component looks like pure ass.
Any 1.3 HDMI cable you can find will work with anything HDMI out there right now you can throw at it- it's a backwards-compatible spec (thankfully). I'd head over to monoprice and get yourself some HDMI love, load up planet earth on blu ray, and feast your eyes. you don't know what you're missing!
@Nintenboy01:
No cables. The monitors are kinda old too... never really use them but they get the job done :). I mainly steal them from some old dell dimension desktops I have.
When it is fully done then I am switching to HDMI (and then I will have some more $$$). Everything I have now is RCA compatible.
Also the laptops actually dont have a DVI port, only 1 does and it is one of the ones that is scheduled to be replaced later. All have VGA ports.
@KTK1990: Using that logic, you would invariably never upgrade your equipment. Technology will never just stop at a certain point. What happens when they advertise 8K equipment for the home. Your investment into 4K equipment will be in vein.
@mantis350: I will upgrade... eventually when I have enough cash for it.
Doesn't really make a lot of sense right now to go into debt for a new tv, cords, and other things. When I could use that money for things like.... Food, getting my degree, paying for class textbooks.
I will wait for something to come down in price, or even better when I actually have the money to upgrade. All of those things look really awesome and nice and great though.
I will though check later and see how much cords cost. I never actually use my laptop on a 2nd screen.. and have used the RCA cables last in like.. 2006?

BTW, what idiot put the TV directly under a fluorescent light fixture?

Does the movie industry think we're made of cash?

Short answer; Yes.
Long answer; Yeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss.
