iPhone Firmware 2.2 Jailbroken, QuickPwn 2.2 Released

Once again, anything Apple can make, the enterprising Dev Team can break: the brand-new firmware 2.2 has been jailbroken. QuickPwn should take care of everything, unless you're one of those unfortunate owners of the second-generation iPod touch, in which case you're out of luck at the moment. iPhone Firmware 2.2 Beta 2 Goes Out to Developers: Still No Copy/Paste

So here's the deal. You don't get copy/paste. You don't get image or videos over MMS. And you still can't type your emails or text messages in landscape mode. BUT! If you've been dreaming about Google Street View, or, uh, walking directions... well, you're in luck, because Apple is listening to you and nobody else. One neat little tidbit, though: looks like the SDK is now supporting line-in audio devices, which could lead to some fun later on. Still, not a thrilling update. [Boy Genius Report]

Google Maps For Mobile 2.2 Saves Gas With Bus and Train Directions

The new version of Google Maps for Mobile (2.2) is offering public transportation directions "in all of the same places as the web version of Google Maps, including Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Vancouver, and over 40 other cities in North America." Users will also be able to easily browse through all scheduled trips and get information on the last transit trips for the day. Throw that in with the "My Location" feature, and you have yourself a useful tool in the fight against high gas prices.

New Sharp Aquos Line Includes World's First 22- and 26-Inch 1080p LCDs

Sharp unveiled three new TVs, a 22", 26" and 32" in its P series. While all three are 1080p, these are the first 22" and 26" 1080p LCDs to hit the market. Of course, you're probably saying your computer monitor can handle 1080p, which is probably why one of the main features of these sets is a "PC input jack"—DVI-D, presumably—and picture-in-picture for catching shows while working on the computer. While they are still in Japan only, there's a good chance we'll start seeing 1080p sets this small in the US too, now that Sharp has broken the size barrier. [Akihabara News]
