HP DreamColor LP2480zx Shows Off Its One Billion Colors

LCD monitors are generally pretty convenient, but many graphic design and video professionals can't rely on LCDs alone because they just aren't color accurate enough for finesse jobs. So they end up double checking images in clunky CRT monitors. HP is addressing this issue with their DreamcColor display. An LED-backlit 24-inch widescreen monitor, the DreamColor features 30-bit imaging with a over billion colors. That's 64 times the standard LCD color gamut...at a price that's only about 10 times the standard LCD ($3,499). A side-by-side against a mortal monitor after the jump, but will you really be able to tell the difference with that piece of crap you're using? More »

Sony SRS-ZX1 Speakers Provide Extra Bass Via Mysterious "Mobius Duct"

Aside from the creepy robots and good food, there are other reasons to want to be Japanese—like Sony's SRS-ZX1 speakers. The shiny, metallically chic speakers come with a technology that Sony calls the "Mobius Duct," which supposedly creates a potent low-frequency response. The thing is, no one really knows what a Mobius Duct is, except a fancy way of saying "better bass than some other low-end speakers." More »

Woz and Kathy Griffin NOTMAYBE Hooked Up?

[UPDATE: I took a pass, noting inconsistencies. - B.L.]Turns out the rumor of Kathy Griffin fondling Woz's apples were a bit off, according to Adario Strange. He's proudly skeptical of the whole thing, pointing to a Page Six post that he claims says the two have never met. But reading the Page Six page actually says the contrary. Adario, which is it? Cingular Gets Samsung ZX20 HSDPA Phone

Now Cingular customers have two choices of phones if they want to use HSDPA fast mobile browsing. The Samsung ZX20 has Bluetooth, quad-band GSM, WCDMA 850/1900, both HSDPA and EDGE, 40MB internal memory, microSD slot, and a 1 megapixel camera. It's a little bit more expensive than the current HSDPA phone (LG CU500 for $79.99), but $199.99 isn't horrible. It just means you'll have to order the salad instead of the steak, and from the looks of you, that's probably a good idea anyway. More »

US Gets HSDPA First, Plus Phones

Can you believe it? We in the US actually beat Asia and Europe to the punch on HSDPA, a new WCDMA/UMTS-based 3G technology, now only being offered by Cingular. Ok, so we only have a data card for laptops so far, but Samsung and LG have both promised phones to go with this service later this month. Look for the Samsung ZX10 and the LG CU320, both with swivel megapixel cameras and a microSD memory card slot—and the ability to handle simultaneous voice and data connections. The CU320 will also come with Bluetooth and tri-band GSM, while the ZX10 lacks Bluetooth but comes with quad-band GSM. More »

Samsung's Slew of Phones at CES

Samsung slings out 7 new phones at CES, making sure its giant 82-inch TV won't be lonely out there.
The Samsung zx10 will be the first North American UMTS phone, with a 1.3 mega pixel camera, MicroSD memory expansion and video and audio streaming.
The zx20 will be the company's first HSDPA capable phone (supposedly the world's first) and will thankfully support quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE plus dual band HSDPA/UMTS frequencies. Also includes a 1.3 megapixel camera.
The D807 is slim and stylish, only 15.4 mm thick, with MP3 player and MP3 ringtones, Bluetooth and MobiTV.
The SCH-A930 is also slim but looks like it will only be offered by Verizon. With a clamshell design, it's got music-dedicated keys on the front cover, MP3 music player, and memory expansion through T-Flash cards. Also includes dual displays, swiveling 1.3-megapixel camera with video record capability, Video on Demand and stereo speakers.
The Samsung SGH-T709 is a cool-looking slider phone for T-Mobile and supports 850/1800/1900 frequencies as well as Instant Messaging (AOL, ICQ, Yahoo). Most importantly, it looks like this one will include Wi-Fi for wireless connection, which we haven't seen much of yet from any US mobile phone. And yea, it's got a 1.3-megapixel camera.
The SGH-T609 is quad-band GSM/EDGE clamshell phone with dual-screens, Bluetooth, 32MB of built-in memory, MP3 music media player and instant messenger.
Finally, the i830 is almost the same as the SCH-i730, but without the WiFi capability. It is, however, both a dual-band CDMA and dual-band GSM phone based on Microsoft Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition 2003. Includes Bluetooth, QWERTY sliding keyboard, SD memory expansion slot and 520 MHz Intel Bulverde processor. More »
