My roommate just purchased a 2big triple with 2TB recently. The thing is built like a tank. LaCie dropped the price before the new year to $349 for a while (up to $369 now). The drive bays are a bit cheesy, they're just metal brackets with a locking mechanism on the front, but they work and drive swapping is just a screwdriver away! The replacement drives seem a bit pricey if you ask me...I wonder if you can just buy a tray? The trays can't cost more than $10 to make since there's zero electronics in them.
Thanks, but I'll still stick with my Thecus N5200 NAS. 5-disk RAID 0,1,5,6, gigabit ethernet, linux kernel with the ability to install third party modules. A very powerful little box, and 5 drives beats 2 any day of the week.
@Kaiser-Machead: Then I guess Junior's just going to have to learn to be careful.
Come on, Kaiser... this namby-pamby approach to parenting just results in panty-waisted emo brats. I've said it before and I'll say it again - nothing builds character like nicking up your hands trying to plug ribbon-cables into 5.25" drives.
