Question: You mentioned the old ps3 (with no backward capacibility) can play ps2 game if it have a ps2 emulator? How about Linux OS installed, can it then play pc games? lets say something like Final Fantasy XI Online or World of Warcraft?
@SwahaDoomer: Yeah, but it's like a$60 Blutooth adapter that plugs into your PS3 and apparently comes saddled with a host of functionality problems that are yet to be ironed out in the firmware. Check Logitech's support forums before buying...
Wait what? Who is gonna really buy a $24 stand? I've never stood any console on it's side ever.
Also $100 for a new hard drive huh? It already comes with 120gigs! $100 will get you 500gigs. I popped a 7200rpm 160gig drive into my current PS3 for only $43 off Newegg.
Also the standby power is about half a watt. When the Slim SAVES 30-50 watts while operating over current ones.
Your list is really inaccurate in general and only considers the absolute worst case scenario that no gamer or bluray watcher is gonna care about.
@BaronAgrippa: My brother and I both use the vertical orientation. His PS3 comes out from behind his TV with the slot aiming slightly forward. It works VERY well. Mine sits in front of the swiveling "spine" that holds up a 52" flat panel, and gives the appearance that the TV is balanced on top of the PS3. I use a low-profile right-angle HDMI adapter and a right-angle AC power cord (custom-made) and the setup is just awesome. The new "slim" PS3 is actually deeper in one dimension, the orientation of the embossed logo is different, and the "PS" logo above the disc slot does rotate; all of which do not complement the vertical orientation with the new model.
Just a little note: the 80 gig PS3s that have four USB ports are the ones that have partial PS2 backward compatibility. The ones cut down to two offer no backward compatibility.

I think obne very serious and unmentioned concern of mine is this: how is the video quality compared. They turned down the dials and took away, yet no mention concerning video quality with Bluray and video games. I don't care if they did/did not mention it, I would like to see side by side comparisons. I wonder if they also started to use a cheapoer drive... *cough cough hack hack arg*
@AndromedaHorse: Why would there be any reason to think the video quality would be any different? Turned the dials down? If you are referring to how it uses less power this is mostly due to the smaller process of the cell (45nm) and swapping for some other components. Same CPU (just smaller), same GPU, same memory. No "dials" were turned down so there is absolutely no reason to think video quality would be any less. You dont thin ksomeone would have already came out and said that if it had?
Hmmm. I'm kinda cheesed about the USB port reduction because they are dirt cheap, but when they make thousands of units, I suppose it starts mattering.
Kotaku has a video and they tested its ability to stand on its own and it was fine.. oh and again i dont know who read the FCC stuff but its just 120's and 250's in the FCC papers (seen above from Kotaku
@BlueToast: I agree completely - Stephen Tolio or whatever his name is (who was a tool when he had a show on G4) obviously had a conclusion he wanted to make and then set out to prove it. Problem is, the video doesn't show what he wanted it to show *at all*. But he continues to claim otherwise.
I would never stand a console up like that, where basically brushing past it or bumping into your TV stand would knock it down. (The original PS3 is a completely different matter, and it does stand up "fine" without a stand.)
@BlueToast: Also, let's see him try to actually press any of the buttons when standing up that way. Easy to do on the old model because they're touch sensitive. Try it on this thing without a stand and you'll be sans-PS3 pretty quick.

Oh, and swapping out the hard drive? One screw, and it's located on the bottom under a plastic popup tab, not on the front.
